Raceland may not be a dream job but for the most part some things that they have for a coach are the support of the administration, faculty, alumni and the community along with good kids that will work their butts off for a coach

These things combined with the best facility anywhere around this area to work and coach in imo add up to a pretty good job. There may be better coaching jobs around but I can certainly look around and not too far away and see a lot worse places .

Well said...I think the main reason people need to understand is this: While the love of coaching draws you to a certain job or aspiration for what might be considered a better "coaching" job, you have to consider why you're there in the first place...to teach. You have to take into account all of the factors involved, not just the coaching. You could have what's considered a great coaching gig, but have no administrative or fan support, or have your clicks or factions who will work against you, & you have to be happy in your teaching position & the people you work with, because if you're not, you'd be miserable regardless of where you're coaching or how good of a coaching gig it is.

 

In the end, you're the one who has to get up every morning & look in the mirror & be satisfied with the overall picture & the choices you make. Raceland offers a good balance of all of the things you'd want to be happy (as do many schools). That's why it's hard to get jobs at some schools because of all of the things mentioned, which cause people to stay quite a long time before they leave or retire.

My daughter went to Raceland a couple of years ago, and I have the upmost respect for Scott Floyd and I wouldn't want to leave either if I were in his situation. Now the ref. bashing fans at Raceland that's a whole different story.

I don't think Coach Floyd is going to Greenup or Russell this year, but why is everybody so confident he would not go anywhere?

Wow! That's weird because he annouced yesterday on Preps that he wasn't going anywhere and was happy at Raceland. People were speculating him leaving for the GC job, so he logged on and set the record straight.

 

 

Also heard from someone on the inside that Floyd HAS inquired about the GC coaching position!

I have no idea if Floyd is going anywhere. But he was at Russell today talking to the principal and the AD. That is a fact. They could have been talking about the weather or softball for all I know.

I assume he likes it there and is not going anywhere soon, but all I am saying is that Rams fans shouldn't say never. What if a huge raise in pay, perks, level, etc.? Nobody is 100% satisfied, ever.

I don't remember saying "never", but I don't see him leaving for GCHS or Russell in the next few years. By that time, his kids will be very well rooted at Raceland and his wife will have 20+ yrs tenure. Those reasons on top of top notch support and co-coach of the year award, district championship as first year head coach and a top facility? What more could a first year head coach ask for.

 

In his varsity head-coaching career, he has been named coach of the year 4 out of 8 years. ( 3 out of 7 years for softball and 1 for 1 in basketball)...pretty good stats imo. I've said before that I'd send my kids to the moon to play ball for Floyd.

Floyd stays at Raceland (Why would he leave?) Floyd played at Greenup but is loved so much by the Ram Alumni they will probably retire his jersey in orange.

 

Fraley coaches his alma mater. His dream job comes true but then again Pitino thought Boston was too.

 

Kidwell vs. Barnes, Kidwell wins out with his support system, Cassidy coaches the Russell Girls after rule changes.

 

Don Daniels coaches in another region, maybe another state?

 

Barnes and Nobles take over at Rose Hill and in two years make back to back State appearances.

:thumb::thumb: No problem, I was just naming some reasons that imo Raceland is a great place to coach and teach.

Raceland has it's problems from time to time as well (all do) but I think that I am very safe in saying no where near the amount of the other two county schools. JMO

On the Greenup coaching thread he said he wasn't applying at GC and that he was happy at Raceland. I tend to think that says it all. Now, if it's someone just pretending to be him or not I don't know but if it is him than that pretty much some it up for me. I don't think he would say that if he wasn't planning on staying in Ramland. JMO!
