Not so sure being a pastor makes you the best person duck! Whoever gets it needs to be motivating. Girls Basketball at Russell is slowly but surely fading!

 

I just wanted to clarify....I meant nothing ill towards Coach Parsley nor his ability to motivate. I was just stating facts - pastor doesn't equal best person for any job and whoever coaches next needs to be motivating, as is the case for Marv League to NBA!

 

I also wanted to make clear that I was not saying that Coach Kidwell and staff haven't done a good job! I personally would love it if he stayed with the girls!!! Once again I was just stating the facts...our numbers are down from top to bottom, and basketball is taking the back seat to softball, soccer, and dance.

It seems like numbers are down in the 5 main Big Schools:

Ashland

Boyd

Greenup

Russell

Why is that?

These schools still put out good teams but seems like their numbers have been gradually spiraling downward for a number of years now.

It probably has something to do with the "Non-Main" schools increasing their numbers. Maybe someday Raceland and Fairview can be "Main" schools.

I really hate to say this but hiring Divk Vitale as a motivationa speaker couldn't have done anything with this years team. They just didn't have the talent to compete.

You may be correct in saying that, BUT I do recall a few games in which there were some people sitting on the bench with their arms crossed in an UNmotivating manner. Maybe their hands were tied , so to speak ? I know YOU saw that. And if you think some of the methods used in the boys games will work with this girls team, somebody is in for a rude awakening. If they are not selective in a girls coach there may not be enough left to play. Having experience as a player and helping coach is a major plus, but you better know how to work with kids in general first.:thumb:

 

You see that with every team at some point throughout the year, especially a team who lost 20+ games. I don't think that has anything to do with Parsley's, or any other coach on staff, ability to motivate the kids. I know Todd well and he would be an excellant choice for the girls position. He knows the game very well and the kids seem to really like him. I know that probably every single player to play for him would have nothing but great things to say about him. What he did with the boys' JV team this year was really great. They started playing well and won many games that I, or anyone else, thought they would win. He really did a great job of getting them ready to play and playing to the strengths of his team. Todd would be a fantastic choice for the girls team.

I didnt mean any harm to the smaller schools, I have observed for 40 years the 16th region and over the past 15 years the numbers have decreased in the bigger schools. :thumb:

I wasn't the only one that took offense, and I have watched the region for quite a while as well, and Russell has not been a big school since the 70's, Greenup has been steadily decreasing since the early 80's, Ashland is still a big school (5A out of possible 6 in football), Boyd has been about the same for 15 to 20 years, Rowan I really don't know how much their size has changed.

 

I am not sure, but I would think that East Carter and West Carter have increased in size over the last 10 years, Rose Hill has increased in size, Fairview, I would say has increased in size, and Raceland has doubled in size over the last 15 years (going from 595 students in '92 to 1100 now).

I am not talking primarily about enrollment, I am just saying that those 5 schools on an average have been in the past much larger and should have had more kids coming out for their schools teams but for some reasons they dont. Are you telling me that there are no more than a hand full of kids that play basketball in these schools? Most of these schools have a very large number of kids playing in the grade school leagues. How many kids play in the MMYBL?

I was just told that Scott Floyd was seen touring Russell today with the principal and AD
