Can anyone tell us what teaching position they are currently holding open for the new coach and is Floyd qualified to teach that position ?

Wow! That's weird because he annouced yesterday on Preps that he wasn't going anywhere and was happy at Raceland. People were speculating him leaving for the GC job, so he logged on and set the record straight.

I am not talking primarily about enrollment, I am just saying that those 5 schools on an average have been in the past much larger and should have had more kids coming out for their schools teams but for some reasons they dont. Are you telling me that there are no more than a hand full of kids that play basketball in these schools? Most of these schools have a very large number of kids playing in the grade school leagues. How many kids play in the MMYBL?

There are an abundance of things for students to do now, that were not available 15 years ago, not just baseball, football, and basketball. Many students choose other paths. Plus, all of the major sports are now a year around commitment, and some do not want to give that kind of commitment. Basketball only has 15 players anyway, no matter what size the school is.

 

More players are playing baseball and football and practicing and participating virtually year around and have choose the importance of those sports over basketball.

 

Numbers drop from the youth leagues every year. At Raceland we had over 90 players last year in the JFL in grades 3-6. Does that mean that we will have 90 players when the 6th graders are seniors? No. We will have 55 like we always do.

I agree. Of course Wooden is 98 years old.

 

:thumb: 98 years old and still no doubt has forgotten more about basketball than anyone on this board will ever know. Anyone else for that matter, Adolph Rupp or Hank Iba would be the only ones of a very, very few imo that is comparable and they are dead so that leaves Wooden.

 

Can anyone provide a link that John Wooden will be the boys basketball coach at Russell for the 08-09" season?:lol:

 

I 100% agree that Coach Dodd did a fine job with the team that he had at Russell this season, it's always a "what have you done for me lately" scenerio in coaching.

I don't know if Coach Floyd would want to go anywhere or not. Any coach may make a

decision to leave the place that he is at. That is a given and certainly has happened everywhere at one time or another.

I will say that it would shock me if he would go to GCHS especially due to the administration problems down there, or Russell who now seems to be going along the same lines as GCHS. They (Russell) have some catching up to do though but it looks like that they now have start on it. Is a bad situation when a very few plot against and oust a person that they are said to support :sssh: but it sees that is what is happening here.

Might be a good idea for any coach that goes there to have a "knife proof" vest to wear on their back, skin tougher than leather and another job lined up in a couple of years.

JMO and I won't argue or post anymore about it on this thread.

I don't think Coach Floyd is going to Greenup or Russell this year, but why is everybody so confident he would not go anywhere?

I am not confident, but I highly doubt he will be leaving anytime soon. To start with, he just finished his first season and won a district championship, and has a quality team returning next season that will probably be the favorite to win the district again. He is well liked at Raceland and has a good situation. His wife is employed at Raceland he has many close friends at Raceland that he gets to work with daily, and a very nice and new basketball facility. He has great administrative support.

 

In all honesty, it is a dream job.

Raceland may not be a dream job but for the most part some things that they have for a coach are the support of the administration, faculty, alumni and the community along with good kids that will work their butts off for a coach

These things combined with the best facility anywhere around this area to work and coach in imo add up to a pretty good job. There may be better coaching jobs around but I can certainly look around and not too far away and see a lot worse places .

I assume he likes it there and is not going anywhere soon, but all I am saying is that Rams fans shouldn't say never. What if a huge raise in pay, perks, level, etc.? Nobody is 100% satisfied, ever.
