Barack Hussein Obama Was At 'Hate U.S.' Sermon

Featured Replies

Hate speech by someone other than Obama.

Romney's faith isn't relevant. Neither is Obama's. What is relevant is being closely tied and good friends with someone who is a die-hard anti-American racist. Obama can't realistically claim that he didn't have a clue what his trusted adviser believed in.

So, RM, you are completely fine with someone sitting through hate sermons, for 20 years from his spiritual advisor, being the next POTUS?

This is a very slippery slope argument. I could see the homosexual community jumping on this point to condemn sermons that say homosexual activity and heterosexaul activity out of marriage as a sin as hate sermons.

I guess you can take the cynical route, or you can take the optimistic route. As there's no evidence that Obama has some secret desire to advance racist rhetoric, I see no reason to take the cynical route.
Obama's rhetoric is not at issue, his beliefs are. How does a "uniter" quietly endure two decades of the anti-American and racist rants of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright if Wrights beliefs are at odds with his own world view?

You may call me cynical, but I believe Obama's silence for 20 years demands that his rhetoric be welcomed with some healthy skepticism.

So, you think that all Catholics agreed with the Church's cover ups of the clergical abuse scandals because we haven't left our Church?

There's more to a church than the pastor.

What evidence is there that every sermon that Rev. Wright delivered was a "hate" sermon? There are a few dredged up sermons being circulated. Where are all of the other thousands of sermons he must have delivered?

Had the Catholic church that you attend discovered that its priest was a pedophile, yet refused to dismiss him for 20 years, then yes I would say that it would have been wrong to have continued to attend that church. There is more to a religion than a single church.
Then why would someone continue to sit through that for 20 years if the congregation doesn't agree? My experience with African American churches is limited (around 15-20 times in my lifetime) but I never recall hearing anything remotely close to the rants that Rev. Wright has been accused of coming from the pulpit. But like I said, my experience is limited. I may have to expand my experiences even more in the very near future.

Sorry it took awhile to respond but I lost internet service for a few minutes.

It's not as prevalant as it was then but it still happens.

Let me try to explain it the way it was explained to me by everyone from my great grandparents all the way to my parents. I remember all of them saying pretty much the same thing.

Blacks weren't allowed to have public groups with more than three people in them because of Jim Crow laws. The only place where this was allowed was a church.

Throughout most of black history the church has served as the only place were we would be allowed to express political views without much worry of repercussion. It has also served as a school, hospital and community center.

It would be the place where the Montgomery Boycott would take hold and give birth to the modern civil rights movement.

It would be where marchers would start many protests marches during the 60's.

It was in the black churches that many people who would feel safe to register to vote as they wouldn't at their local city hall.

So the pastor of one of these church's would be held in very high regard. He would stay the head of the church until he died. Even if he would say or do something that people wouldn't agree with. People wouldn't leave either because of many friends and family members who belonged also.

The sermons that have been "dredged up" were sermons that Trinity sold through its web site until just a few months ago. Do you honestly believe that the church selected those sermons at random or that it chose to sell videos of the most offensive sermons that it could dredge up? Most web sites sell "best of" products.

I'm pretty sure more people knew about these priests than just the Church leadership. What about the parents of those kids? And yes, you are correct...there is more to religion than a single church. There's also more to a congregation than it's pastor.

Tell me...where these the only sermons sold? Or only the ones that have been focused on?

I think that I already answered your question. Parents who would leave their kids in a church, knowing that the pastor was a pedephile would be wrong. Just as parents who would take their children to hear anti-American, racists rants in church for more than a decade are also wrong.

Obama is running for president. Why would his political opponents focus on any innocuous videos that might have been available?

Have you actually watched the available video clips?

You didn't answer my question. Where those the only tapes sold?

I guess the snidbits I have seen total about 5 minutes.

50 sermons a year (we will give him 2 weeks vacation) and 20 years is 1,000 sermons, right. Each sermon is probably 30 minutes in length.

So, out of 30,000 minutes of messages, we are going to paint this guy in a certain image because of 5 minutes?

I don't agree with them at all.

What a lot of people fail to realize is that even thought these type of things are sometimes said a majority of the congregation don't agree with them.

Sure looked to me like most of the congregation whole heartedly agreed and if they did not why did they stay? This has happened more than once of the 20 year period I can almost guarantee it. You can't choose the family you were born into but you sure can choose the place you worship. Obama is indeed a slick politician when it comes to spin the story in his favor.
