March 19, 200818 yr Author Can you describe that scenario and make an educated conjecture as to why? I could have been there too but I wasn't. Do I need to prove that as well? They call them jets. Are you running for president? If so, did you claim you NEVER heard him utter such remarks?
March 19, 200818 yr Author no. But then I'm not the one asking the original question and getting no statement from the original inquisitor, am I? What are you, his mouthpiece?
March 19, 200818 yr I was not raised in a Christian Home, my family are atheists. I do not feel that I need faith right now, nor do I believe that Christians have the monopoly on the way to heaven. The pastor only pointed out truths.Which "truths" did you have in mind?
March 19, 200818 yr Author I think that America waging war in the Middle East, or anywhere for that matter is bad. That would depend on the reason; I would think you would understand that. I think that America allowing people to be homeless in the richest country in the world is bad. Allowing? How is that the government’s fault? I think that America allowing children to go to bed at night without adequate food and heat in their house is bad. How is that the government’s fault? I think our treatment of the immigrant legal and illegal is bad. ??? What in the world are you talking about? Many of you rail against our government all the time for collecting too much of your money in taxes. Yeah, what’s wrong with that? You like handing your money over? You rail against our government for wanting to take away your guns. Darn right, it’s a constitutional right to have them. You rail against our government for allowing abortions. Yeah, we think murder is wrong. You rail against our government for not deporting illegal aliens. What part of illegal don’t you understand? You rail against our government for its equal opportunity policies. We do? When was that?, I don’t recall saying people don’t deserve equal rights in this country Come to think of it, I don’t remember anyone on this board saying anything like that…
March 19, 200818 yr Author Which "truths" did you have in mind? :lol:Yeah, I'd like to know that one myself.

Wright to be able to do that same thing?
March 19, 200818 yr Author I think Ace's point is that how is it okay for us to question the government and how it is ran and not for Rev. Wright to be able to do that same thing?Poor point, IMO. What the, ahem, reverend said was pretty toxic.
March 19, 200818 yr Poor point, IMO. What the, ahem, reverend said was pretty toxic. Doesn't he have that right? And shouldn't we be willing to listen to opposing views, while forming our own?
March 19, 200818 yr Doesn't he have that right? And shouldn't we be willing to listen to opposing views, while forming our own? From the pulpit? Separation of church and state? Path to Heaven does not run through the Democratic Party, Republican Party, or the US Government.
March 19, 200818 yr Doesn't he have that right? And shouldn't we be willing to listen to opposing views, while forming our own? Exactly! What is the quote...I know I will get it wrong, but someone will help me - "The mark of an educated mind is being able to consider an idea without necessarily having to accept it." Though I may disagree with what someone says, is there any shred of truth or reasoning behind why they say it?
March 19, 200818 yr From the pulpit? Separation of church and state? A charitable religious, etc., organization described in Code Sec. 501©(3) doesn't qualify for exemption if, as a substantial part of its activities, it carries on propaganda or attempts to influence legislation, or if it participates or intervenes in any political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office. Intervening in a political campaign includes the publishing or distributing of statements. There may be individual cases of political intervention where, based on the facts and circumstances such as the nature of the political intervention and the measures that have been taken by the organization to prevent a recurrence, IRS may exercise its discretion to impose the tax on political expenditures but not to seek revocation of the organization's exempt status under Code Sec. 501©(3) .
March 19, 200818 yr What should he have done? What hypothetical actions could he have taken "Walking out" comes to mind. I've been to Chicago many times. I know leaders of two (2) Christian ministries in the inner city. Other good, biblical churches do exist. This "hypothetical action" would not have been difficult...(unless you are attending a church for "political" reasons)
