The sophomores (to be) are looking pretty darn good this spring! Was impressed yesterday by the line opening holes for some very quick and hard running backs. #8 (Duennes?) looks to be a Kremer clone and strong performances were given by Abner, Seidel, Bankamper and the young man that caught the bomb from Bardo. ( I hope he gets some reps with the #1's soon!). JV team will be strong again this year!!

I was also impressed with Kevin Duanis!!! He gets around the corner fast. I would expect to see this kid make an immediate impact on special teams. Hope he keeps it together and continues to work hard this spring and summer.

I have always heard this kid is the next coming of Brett Hamblin but only time will tell. I am with you Boom in hoping that he keeps focus and keeps working hard.

I also agree. He needs to get a lot stronger though as he gets taken down too easily. I realize he's only a frosh currently and has plenty of time to get stronger, but its an absolute necessity that he takes the weight room time seriously over the next couple of years.

 

I thought the first O looked a lot better this past Friday. O line did a much better job picking up blitzing lbers. We still have a ways to go on the O however. Then again, I thought the same about our O last spring, and come last fall, they did a pretty good job :thumb:, so I have reason to believe we'll be fine on the O this fall.

 

D, while we haven't worked much on it this spring, should be really good again this Fall. Based on the size of CovCath's offensive linemen returning, our d line and lbers better be spending a whole lot of serious time in the weight room this coming summer. With their size on the O line, you know CovCath is going to try to pound the football between the tackles and if we have to over commit to stop the run, they are going to be able to successfully run play action passes to their tight end over the middle.

Was he #1 on the Frosh team this year? If not, how is that kid looking? He was a lot of fun to watch as he had some amazing runs and returns.

If I recall correctly, Kevin played WR for the Frosh. Backfield was Ethan Bishop, Corey Compton and Austin Bowling for the most part. Kevin did handle punt returns and was quite elusive.

 

As to your second question, I did not see Bishop on the field on Friday. Not sure where he was, but he wasn't out there.

I heard in the stands that the Bishop boy was sick...also Ollie Head! Young Sullivan was MIA, also. Must agree with LN that the O-line looked MUCH better than the scrimmage Tuesday in the downpour. 62 looked really good picking up LBs and was taking nice angles on his blocks. 63 had a very nice scrimmage. Center looks to be very quick. The "newbie" 54 really looked good on traps. The "Big 'Un " at RT was doing a fine job against 98, who is a veteran. JC was very solid and Clint Crawford is "poised to make noise" this year. Tony G. looked very calm back there today and ran the ball on a couple occasions very well...and as always threw the ball terrific. 19 underneath will be a big factor this year...Do you think Dale and Marvin Lewis might be "on the same page" ? (lol)

Nice summary Z. The D has a big leg up in the Spring, particularly this year with so many new offensive linemen in place. The D knows the plays and knows how to attack them. But the O line has gotten better adjusting to the attack angles that the D has been taking and is getting used to each other on the O line, and in my opinion, those two things accounted a lot for the much better performance on Friday. I hope we also improve in our down field blocking. Blocking downfield is like quail hunting. If you watch the covey and don't pick out one quail, you miss them all. An O lineman has to quickly pick out one defender, zero in on him, forget the rest and hope the other O linemen picks up the others.

How did the QB's look? And who did the linebacker core consist of and how did they do?

Guidugli looked like a Guidugli! The #2's were led by Abner...who looked very solid, until he got his shoulder/arm nicked. Bardo then stepped in and threw some nice balls. He also took off on a run that was reminiscent of his cousin! (Cecil). LB's were led by Nick Martin who is having an outstanding spring! He's working hard and will find his way onto the field somehow! I know Jake Turner was on the outside but don't remember much from the others. (Laber and Roller were working on O and Newman is baseball...Alford is nursing a bad shoulder).
