IMO post #75 vented on the wrong guy, I don't read the other post as saying the officals cost Corbin the game just the opposite. I do agree the Corbin bench looked to be in shock at the end (guess I would have been also).

 

Sorry for a long post " but" This is years of frustration buldt up over "some" Corbin, fans blaming stripes and bad calls in all their losses. :madman:

 

I'm not really sure what on earth you are rambling about.:confused: The game was called pretty much the same on both ends, my only complaint would be that they allowed too much contact on the shooter in the paint(both ways)and some of the walking calls the one official called were not walking the way the game is currently called. I have yet to hear a Corbin fan say that they got ripped in this game, most seem to think that Corbin may have gotten and a little tired and South became very aggressive and took advantage of it.

 

I don't really think it had anything to do with any adjustments that either coaching staff made or didn't make either...........it came down to a couple of South players making clutch plays late in the 4th quarter and Corbin not being able to.

I agree South made several unreal clutch plays the last four minutes and great clutch freethrows to seal the game in OT. Impressive how coach and players kept their composure when it sure looked like the season was done for them, and just kept playing the next play.

black_10, if you were a preacher and I was in church, then I would be yelling "Amen" and "praise the Lord." I am in total agreement with you. Corbin was out coached three out of four games against South Laurel. The second game at Corbin was a combination of shoots not falling and being out coached. Many people will see this as a Corbin fan bashing Coach Pietrowski. I am not bashing the man. He's a young coach with a young coaching staff. I do not know if he'll learn from this loss and grow from it or not. Time can only answer this question. As for the guys in stripes, the way I see, you get a feeling for how the game is going to be called in the first 3 minutes of play ... you have to adjust your game plan accordingly. I do think it would be ashame for the Corbin kids not to get to go to Rupp with all the talent they have -- but there have been many talented teams that never made the Sweet Sixteen.

 

I enjoyed watching these Corbin kids play this year and look forward to next season.

Corbin and Cooach P need to hire Roscoe away from South and the Hounds will be headed to Rupp. He is by far and away the best X's and O's coach in the area. His record speaks for itsself.

Amazing how some of you are willing to throw Coach Pietrowski under the bus after this loss. He won 24 games and made it to the region finals last year playing with basically all sophomores and freshman. He beat the second best team (Bell County) and had South Laurel on the ropes. He won 25 games this year with his best player out until Christmas and only about 75 percent the remainder of the year. His team had to beat Clay County, Knox Central on their home floor, and had a 13 point lead in the fourth quarter of the South Laurel Game.

 

Are we as fan upset that we lost to South the way that we did? My answer would be yes, but Coach Pietrowski does an exceptional job on the bench. He is one of better coaches in Eastern Kentucky if not the entire state. I agree with others in their analysis of South Laurels coaching staff. They have proven themselves to be the best/one of the best in the state. This is no reason however to dismantle the job the Coach P and his staff has done.

 

I for one would like to thank Coach P, his staff, and players. Keep your heads up and work hard in the off season. :thumb:

I think the 20 turnovers and the shooting woes....9 for 36 from Crawford and Johnson may have had something to do with this outcome. It is hard for any coach to X and 0 with those kind of numbers in the stat book. Coach P is a big boy he handle the criticism. Maybe some day he will evolve to the same level as Coach Wright and Roscoe.

A good coach will take good players and win. A coach that wins the big ones does so with good players and teaches the game to them so they know what to do in certain games. He corrects their mistakes by not letting them make them over and over. He teaches them not only how to shoot but when to shoot and not shoot. He learns how to control a game and must teach this to his players. Look how many close games Corbin lost this year. Did Corbin ever learn anything from them? I think not or Corbin would have won last night. Will next year be any better, only time will tell.

Maybe he should teach them not to miss shots..........now that sounds like a plan.

I would but he knows more than anyone already or he would have Coach Farris with him now. You can not help someone that does not want to be helped.

Sounds like the South coaching staff is like B. Keith's old staff at Clay. They knew what the other team was doing better than that team did. I agree, Corbin, South and KC should be the top 3 teams next year as well. Clay loses 2 senior guard and will be very young(no seniors?). By the way, who else is on South's coaching staff besides Wright and Denny?

I don't know what Tony's mindset is on whether or not he wishes he had Willard with him or not. I do know that he's a good coach. Corbin had the better team in my mind and most others minds as well but fact is, South is the better coached team. Like many have said, that is definitely not throwing Coach P under the bus. He is one of the better coaches in the region, eastern Kentucky, if not the state. Fact is, Steve Wright is as well. Tony will be there, but just like anything, it takes time. Corbin and Petrowski have been there and know what it takes but Wright has too. Wright would be out of his element if he wasnt there. What you have is an early 30's coach against a what i presume is a late 40's coach. Steve just has more experience right now and having a great coach like Roscoe helping him, makes it better.

 

In time, Coach P will be more familiar with crunch time and make the adjustments necessary to win these games while providing the better team on the floor. As they say, you learn from your mistakes. I wouldn't exactly call the past two years mistakes but I will say they are learning experiences. Next year, you return virtually your entire team and add Josh Crawford back. I know Josh played this year but a fool could see he wasn't the same as old. Next year coach P will have all of these players, a 20 and 12 senior leader, and two hard lessons learned. I don't want to put any un-needed pressure on him but I expect we will all be plenty pleased with the results from the Redhounds in 08/09.
