A good coach will take good players and win. A coach that wins the big ones does so with good players and teaches the game to them so they know what to do in certain games. He corrects their mistakes by not letting them make them over and over. He teaches them not only how to shoot but when to shoot and not shoot. He learns how to control a game and must teach this to his players. Look how many close games Corbin lost this year. Did Corbin ever learn anything from them? I think not or Corbin would have won last night. Will next year be any better, only time will tell.

Maybe coach P tries to do too much himself. I have noticed during time-outs his two asst. coaches just stand there. What's up with that?

Coach Pietrowski has two very good assistants. He added Brent West to his staff which has helped him greatly. You must not watch time-outs to closely because most of the time the coaches seem to talk off to the side before Coach P addresses his team.

 

Dogman dragging Willard Farris's name into the thread answers a lot of questions as to why he finds himself second guessing Coach P's ability.

I don't know what Tony's mindset is on whether or not he wishes he had Willard with him or not. I do know that he's a good coach. Corbin had the better team in my mind and most others minds as well but fact is, South is the better coached team. Like many have said, that is definitely not throwing Coach P under the bus. He is one of the better coaches in the region, eastern Kentucky, if not the state. Fact is, Steve Wright is as well. Tony will be there, but just like anything, it takes time. Corbin and Petrowski have been there and know what it takes but Wright has too. Wright would be out of his element if he wasnt there. What you have is an early 30's coach against a what i presume is a late 40's coach. Steve just has more experience right now and having a great coach like Roscoe helping him, makes it better.

 

In time, Coach P will be more familiar with crunch time and make the adjustments necessary to win these games while providing the better team on the floor. As they say, you learn from your mistakes. I wouldn't exactly call the past two years mistakes but I will say they are learning experiences. Next year, you return virtually your entire team and add Josh Crawford back. I know Josh played this year but a fool could see he wasn't the same as old. Next year coach P will have all of these players, a 20 and 12 senior leader, and two hard lessons learned. I don't want to put any un-needed pressure on him but I expect we will all be plenty pleased with the results from the Redhounds in 08/09.

Back in 1999, many were calling for Coach Wright's head after South was upset by Somerset in the 48th District Torunament.

He had guided Laurel County to a region crown in 1990, but had many teams to fall in the region finals or semis after that.

I see the same with Tony. He's going to get there, no doubt about it.

You've got to be patient.

Tony is an outstanding coach and he will get Corbin to the promised land.

In 2000, I believe Roscoe Denney came aboard to help Steve and the Cardinals have won six region titles, two quarterfinalists appearances, numerous district crowns and a state championship.

Roscoe knows his stuff, but so does Steve, he is a great coach.

In 10 years, everyone will forget about these losses when Tony is guiding Corbin to the Sweet 16.

At least one of those factors bites them time and time again. No reason to think it will change next year.

I suppose you are a prophet or own a crystal ball? We will learn and return stronger and better for it. Geez, being 2nd best in the region is nothing to sneeze about, lighten up! Coach P is young and Steve Wright is just a figure head because Roscoe is actually the play guy. Corbin kids played with heart they just happened to come up short. And by the way, they must have found a way to win because they made it to the finals---I don't know many teams that find a way to lose and get in the finals.

Some people truly do not understand what Redhound Pride means IMO. True Hounds will find a way to win, or die trying. They do not attempt to place blame when things go wrong. It is easy to critcize team mates, coaches...etc. A true warrior understand sometimes the battle is not won, but a bigger prize awaits those that endure. This team will stay close and bond closer. When you start three sophomores, a junior and your best player is injured most of the season it understandable that all goals may not be reached. Coach P is a great coach. He will learn and return stronger, because he is a competitor. Just take a breath, recall the good times and look forward to next season. South Laurel will represent the region well and there is no shame when all have done their best. All teams have their short comings and only one team will stand unbeaten in their last game this year. No need to be down, look to the future and prepare for the next season.

Bubba Wilson, great post. Every team is going to lose eventually but one. Like I said, it was a joy to attend the games this season and I look forward to next. Its fun to discuss the what ifs and what should have happened and did happen... let's just keep in mind, these are high school students and basketball is just a game.

They must have been really lucky this year to win a few games. This is kind of the way the far left usually thinks though.

Coach Wright is a lot better coach now than he was eight years ago. But if you look at his record before and after Roscoe got there, you will see that it is drastically better since Roscoes arrival. Roscoe Denny has won consistantly at every stop. Wright has won consistantly since Roscoe got there.

 

I think Coach P is an excellent coach ,that like Wright, will get better with time.
