Gotta agree with this statement. That's how it looked to me. Just a great comeback. Maybe a couple of questionable calls, but nothing that you won't see in about any HS game.

Great win for South, It seems that South has some great luck on their hands as well as talent. I know some of you all hate to hear this, but South did get the best draw possible. South seems to have a very lucky hand when it comes to draws. But Im not trying to take anything away from South, any team that can be down by 14 in the 4th and come back has to have a great team. Good Luck South at State~

Hats off to South Laurel. SLHS just has an amazing coaching staff. By far, the best in the region. That's why the Cardinals win again, again, and again. Players will come and go; however, the coaches are going to be there year in and year out. These coaches know how to utilize the talent they have -- that 2-3 defense is unbelievable. Corbin scores 65, 35, 50, and 49 against it.

 

Congratulations, South Laurel, you had the heart of a champion tonight.

 

On a side note, when Corbin was up double digits in the fourth, the fans started chanting "Rupp Arena." Immediately, I was like, "This one is FAR from over." I think everyone started counting chickens too early--fans and players.

Corbin seemed to hit a wall in the 4th quarter, looked fatigued mentally and physically, although they probably should have won anyway.

 

South Laurel must be the most disciplined, aggressive defensive team in the state, almost too good.................

Seen a lot of games blown this year in the last quarter with big leads. Does no one have any discipline anymore? Seems like all these teams know is jack it up every trip. No one seems to work it around for a high percentage shot or a layup only. There is no way they should lose in a high school game up 14 in the last quarter if you can make a free throw every now and then, you don't even have to hit a lot of them, just hold it till they foul you or you get easy shots. This just throwing it up every trip has got to be taken care of by some of these teams. Really cost Corbin tonight, I wonder what the fans are thinking now, after they started that CHANT a little too early! Got to hate that for them.

Overall good called game by the officiating crew from the 14th. some missed calls on both ends, nothing major, both teams definitely had a chance to win and when you go to overtime, it's all on the kids. I was able to watch it on WAZOOSPORTS.COM, I sure wish everyone would use them to do their games, that was a great thing for this tourney.

I agree that their were a lot of missed calls...ON BOTH ENDS!!! The officials let the game get physical and that is fine - it's high school basketball - toughen up or go home!

 

I think Corbin was playing the last 3 minutes "not to lose" rather than to win. There is no way they should have lost this game, but hats off to South for fighting back.

 

I thought St. John played awful until the end of the game. His defense really affected the Corbin inside game during the end of regulation and in OT.

It was like a snowball rolling down a mountain, becoming larger and larger. I left before overtime because I knew South had gained the momentum and Corbin just ran out of gas.

 

Corbin had a great season and there is no shame in being the 2nd best team in the region. I know the players are hurting right now and thinking of all the what ifs. There are many lessons to learn from a loss like this -- many have nothing to do with basketball.

South Laurel had only committed one foul in the 2nd half deep into the 4th quarter. Does anyone have the FT stats? I believe Corbin shot 5 in the first half and 2 in the 2nd half and OT.

Yes, Corbin made 3 of 7 or 4 of 7 in free throws--only made it 7 times to the line.

 

Corbin out rebounded South by a bunch, they had 11 offensive rebounds alone.

 

Corbin had 20 turnovers -- and the ones late hurt. Again, they just ran out of steam.

I swear Corbin has a mental block when it comes to South. I have no doubt that Corbin is the better team overall but that doesn't matter in the big picture. South has been the better team when it counts. I think there should've been more fouls called on South but I'm not going to carry on about that. South never gave up and that's what won it for them. They are a great coached team and it showed tonight. Plus, the blame has to go on the Hounds because if blowing a 13 point 3rd quarter lead isn't bad enough, blowing a 14 point lead with 5 minutes to go is.

 

Corbin should have kept the fast pace that got them the big leads and upped it to 20 or 25 instead of getting complacent. They didn't do that which led to the next mistake. With a 2 point lead against a team like South laurel, you don't go to that 4 corners junk with a minute to go. That set up calls for long passes and South is too good in the passing lanes. I told people around me that it was a mistake and that a turnover was inevitable. I think Corbin should have took it inside more often and tried to get the big kid in foul trouble. St. Johns gets too frustrated when he gets a foul called and has his head outta the game for the next 2 or 3 possessions. If you get him in foul trouble, he's not in the game to make a difference. I also think that last night played a big role in the outcome. Corbin looked winded after having a battle with KC where South was able to rest up against Lynn Camp.
