State Tournament Officials!

Featured Replies

Who exactly do you like?

I think Coldiron is by far the best in the 8th Region. He should be calling the State Tournament. Boucher's reasoning is for him not being there is ridiculous.

What about Watkins or Asher? They are both under rated officials.

I agree. We should reward those that do a good job all year long.

Now, I have to say that I do usually like how Howell calls. I would like Sandlin more if he wasn't so "showy" in his calls.

There is another respectable official in the 8th region, what about Knollman he seems to do a fair job calling ballgames, and he is not a showboat like Sandlin.

I know Brian Sandlin is calling the boys. Not sure of any others.

This guy is terrible. He doesn't deserve to call middle school games.

Ludicrous reasoning, IMO.

It's the state tournament. If an official is the best a region has to offer then they should be there.

The Sweet 16 deserves the best officials in the state regardless of how many times in a row they have been.

There is no limit on the best teams from each region advancing year after year, there shouldn't be a limit on officials that stand above others either.

Just a simple opinion.

I see your point. But what happens when those officials retire? You're stuck with officials who are inexperinced when it comes to the Sweet 16. While I see the point of your statement, I do believe that this is the best process for the future of officiating. In Referee Magazine, he states his reasonings behind his process. He likes to bring in new but qualified officials to work with the veteran officials during the Sweet 16. He doesn't say that an official can only work 2 tourneys in his/her career, just that he doesn't like to give the same official the opportunity year after year after year. If this wasn't the process, we would probably have a great tourney for about 10 years and then the officiating would suffer from lack of experience on that level. I definately think this is the best process for the overall well being and future of KY officials.

How do these threads always turn into a bashing party on officials. The KHSAA is always looking for new officials if you don't like the job their doing.

By this same reasoning, maybe we should only allow the JV coaches on the state tournament team to coach the games. That way, when the varsity coaches retire, these guys will have had some experience!

Isn't that ridiculous? Don't you want your best calling the most important games?

Who is that?

Mark Howell, I think

That is correct.

Scott Bottoms and Tony Gray from the 12th region.

Two awesome officials right there!
