  1. No one from the 12th going. Top 2 officials are making their first-ever region appearances. And the #1 guy was actually voted into the boys, while the #2 was the #1 on the girls, but since you can't make a boys region in your first appearance, you go to the girls, which knocked the #1 to #2, and the one voted into boys region moved to the girls as #1. So, in an unwritten rule, if you are making your first regional appearances, regardless of what the coaches voted you, you don't go to a state.
  2. This is a call that is one of those where you talk the post player into not getting the 3-second violation. If they don't get that message, then it gets called. It is one of those violations that I could care less if it gets called. Why worry about this and let the game be stalled. I hear too many fans yell this, and even assistant coaches. It blows my mind that this one violation is worried about more than anything else. Let the game go. And I will say this, fans and assts. start yelling as soon as the post person gets in the lane. And as officials go, they don't start counting as soon as a toe gets in the lane, and they don't count to 3 and then blow the whistle. An extra second or 2 at least. Everyone is given a chance to get out of the lane on both ends of the floor.
  3. From the sources I have heard from, Mike Black and Tony Gray are going to Rupp from the 12th on the boys side. No one is going to the girls, though. Seems the top 2 on the girls side are making their first-ever trips to a regional tournament. Was told it's an unwritten rule that if you are making your first trip to a region, you don't get a state, regardless of what you ranked by the coaches. To me, that's a little harsh. Does anyone agree? They worked hard to get this ranking. Why deny them the chance to call at the big show? I also heard that the #1 on the girls was actually voted into the boys region, and the #2 was the #1 on the girls. But, again, because it's his first time to a region, you don't go to a boys first, you have to go to girls. Meaning he was dropped to #1 on the girls side, and the #1 was dropped to #2. Again, why deny an official a chance at receiving their just reward as the coaches voted them? Anyone have any remarks?
  4. I have read every bit of this thread, and I can't believe, from Boyle and Lincoln fans, 2 very bitter rivals, no one has made any comments about the officiating. For that not to happen, it must've been pretty decent. Or since it was such a lopsided game, must not have been too much to call.
  5. I have been hearing through the grapevine that the KBA is looking at dates next Feb. of having a freshmen state tourney. Talk is of getting in touch with each regions coach's rep. and asking them to send either their 2 best teams, or if they have a region tourney, send the winner and runner-up to compete in a 32 team state tourney. I think this would be a great idea.
  6. Scott Co. will also have a JV team playing at the AAU at the KBA. Probably be their freshmen team. Meaning they will have 3 teams going this weekend, with their main varsity heading to Frankfort to play in the Bluegrass tourney on the 23rd and 24th, regardless of where their JV team gets them seeded after pool play. I agree with SecondComing, not a good deal with whomever ends up in the bracket with Scott Co.
  7. This is also the same time as the AAU state at the KBA. Well, at least the last 2 of AAU are at the same time as the first 2 days of this tourney. With that, how is Scott Co. going to be in 2 different places at the same time? Will their games not be played at the same time in the 2 places? Will they drive back and forth to play all those games? Or are they fielding 2 teams to play at the different events? Anyone with any knowledge of how they are going to pull it off?
  8. It's always great reading stuff about how referees are to blame for other peoples problems. At the KBA, before the sheriffs dept. was asked to come and patrol the arena, people could get away with all the talk, and all the threats, because they had no fear of the people who worked there. Now, with the deputies there, once they come to the problem area, it's out the door with no more problems. Personally, I don't like seeing that. But, it does show how stupid most people act when they are at a basketball game. What gives them the right to do what they do, say what they say? Some of the things they say, that I have heard, are downright personal. And with the stands being so close to the floor, and anyone sitting there right next to the ref on the floor, you surely don't take that from a coach who gets personal during a game, so why take it from a fan/parent? And it doesn't matter who the refs are, there are ALWAYS going to be stupid people acting idiotic and being thrown out of gyms every year. This past weekend, there were 2 state tournament officials, 3 regional tournament officials, and 5 district championship officials that worked. And each of them had to either call technicals, or toss a coach, or fan. The KBA is still a great place to watch some good players play the great game of basketball. I can't wait for the high school AAU tourneys.
  9. Simply amazing that a lot of you think bringing in someone like Messer is a good choice for Clay Co., and for you to think Spurlock is going to be let go. I can't wait to hear your words when all that doesn't happen. And the fiasco you all keep talking about is all but buried. No other officials are worried about it, those I have talked to. And there was never anything said bad about officials. Just a conversation about having competent ones calling games. It's just like that Boyle situation. Parents, or other people, who can't get their full say, want to cause more problems to try and get their way. Stick to you own life and problems, instead of trying to cause problems for other people.
  10. Coach Kevin Spurlock is definitely back at Clay Co. So these words need to stop. He isn't going anywhere. FINAL!!!
  11. There are a lot of questionable winners of the Coach of the Year. Ligon should've won in the 11th, instead of Hicks. Jon Jones in the 8th. The Greenwood coach in the 4th. Just to name a few. And that is just my opinion. And the Boys coaches and the players will be honored at the Boys state tourney, not the girls. And Western Kentucky University is in Bowling Green, not Eastern.
  12. The Clay County job is not open. Coach Spurlock will be there, no doubts about it. And he will be there the year after that, and the year after that, and the year after that. That is just dumb talk to start a rumor like that.
  13. Scott Bottoms and Tony Gray from the 12th region.
  14. As all the so-called experts do it on TV and radio, let's give it our shot here, and pick to see who plays whom in the 13th regional tourney. Here's mine: 51st winner vs. 49th runner-up 52nd winner vs. 50th runner-up 49th winner vs. 51st runner-up 50th winner vs. 52nd runner-up So, you would have Knox Central facing Jackson Co., followed by Bell Co. Co. facing Corbin. Then, Clay Co. would face Lynn Camp, followed by South Laurel facing Cumberland. Now that is a very good-looking tournament. Semi-finals- Knox Central vs. Corbin, and Clay Co. vs. Cumberland Championship- Corbin vs. Clay Co. Sweet 16 participant- Clay Co. The hottest team in the region!! Now, let's see what your bracket looks like, and plays out.
  15. Clay played an excellent game. Their defense was soild ALMOST all night, with the exception of not getting upon Hamblin for those 3s. No matter where he is on the floor, got to get up on him. Other than that, the interior defense on Brumback by Wilson and Roberts was superb. Did a great job of sloughing off and helping out down low. And the shooting display Roberts put on tonight....WOW!!!!! 7 for 7 from downtown!!! And he is just a freshmen, playing in a huge game like this and giving that kind of performance. Also pulled down some big rebounds, too. But Jackson couldn't stop the drives of Hobbs, Smith, Reid, etc. Just a great job by the Tigers, and a great job by Spurlock putting the game-plan together, and his team executing it to near perfection. For 1 minute there in the 4th period, they kinda forgot who was ahead, it seemed. When they finally got a stop, they iced it at the line. 55TH DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP, AND COUNTING, FOR THE CLAY CO, TIGERS!!!!! Now, it's on to regions. Watch out for this team!!!
