Where oh where has 3 seconds gone. Has it gone the way of the hula hoop and the yo-yo, how about the rubiks cube? I have seen 0 three seconds called this year in my own 24 games and the other 12 games I've seen this year!

Rarely called. Really gives an advantage to a good post player. At Boone we were screaming for the call as Boone's post players were in the lane all night long. At one point the player looked at coach Fookes, who told her, " stay in there until they call it". They never did.

It is bad in the 16th region.

Nonexistant is the word that comes to mind. :jump: Can someone give us the official definition of the call?

I could not agree more. I have seen at least 50 girls games this season and have seen 3 seconds called only a handful of times.

Have the refs been told not to enforce this rule?

I would love to hear from a 9th or 10th region official on this.

It just depends on the officials. Some of them focus on it and some do not. There does need to be more consistency. The games I have watched it doesn't seem to be a problem. Most coaches do not say anything to the referees about it unless it is obvious.

I overheard a ref tell a fan that he hadn't called a 3 second violation in 11 years and he wasn't going to start now. Of course the fan was really pouring it on the refs, so he may have just been messing with the fan.

This is a call that is one of those where you talk the post player into not getting the 3-second violation. If they don't get that message, then it gets called. It is one of those violations that I could care less if it gets called. Why worry about this and let the game be stalled. I hear too many fans yell this, and even assistant coaches. It blows my mind that this one violation is worried about more than anything else. Let the game go. And I will say this, fans and assts. start yelling as soon as the post person gets in the lane. And as officials go, they don't start counting as soon as a toe gets in the lane, and they don't count to 3 and then blow the whistle. An extra second or 2 at least. Everyone is given a chance to get out of the lane on both ends of the floor.
