March 12, 200818 yr What I don't understand is-…When oil goes up then gas shoots up almost immediately, however when oil goes down gas doesn’t seem to fall for a week or two. I have yet to hear anyone explain this and why...?
March 12, 200818 yr Take comfort in the knowledge that 2008 will be another year of RECORD profits for the oil companies. They could probably drop it to $2 a gallon and still clear a hefty profit, but they want RECORD profits. Which means my retirement portfolio increases in value. Being a glass half full type of guy. Sounds like a good thing for anyone owning Exxon stock. :thumb:

I have yet to hear anyone explain this and why...? It's kind of like the foodservice business, you have to insulate yourself, especially if the market goes real crazy, like it has been for the last 13 months. I don't see an end yet, maybe another 14 or so months.
March 12, 200818 yr I've parked my diesel truck and gone to a better gas mileage gas car for right now. When it warms up the "ole motor scooter" will be the option to travel. Right now I REFUSED to pay this amount for Diesel gas! For how long I'm not sure, but for now :madman:
March 12, 200818 yr I have been following gas closely over the past year. We are at least .25 cents away from topping out this year. Anything over $75 a barrel is pure profit for the speculators and oil companies. We will be over $110 by the week and will probably go up to $125. As for the Dem/Rep debate. I have very strong republican beliefs but with a dem president the price will go down. If we get out of Iraq that will drop the price of oil by 30-40 dollars alone. Also, the dems have clearly shown they are going to go after the oil companies profits. They are going to put them in a spot where they have to do something to bring the price of oil down if they want to continue to have strong profits. I am all for captitalism but excess profits is ridiculous. Not too mention pretty much every OPEC leader HATES Bush. We badly need a change of scenery. OPEC clearly stated to us last week after Bush asked them to put more oil on the market... that the "market has a well suppy" of crude. Supply and demand has about 10% to do with prices. We have to rebuild the economy and get the dollar back up or gas will never come down. This will be one of the most important elections ever. Exactly...

Who are the oil companies you are talking about? My understanding is that the price going for a barrel of crude oil is what the oil companies, Shell, Exxon, etc is PAYING for a barrel of crude oil to make into gasoline. How are the making profit on things they are buying?
March 12, 200818 yr Gas at $3.50 per gallon means that it will cost me $87.50 to fill my van if it's on empty. I'm buying a moped.
March 13, 200818 yr I am considering bringing the old huffy out of retirement and biking my way around lol. Good excercise and it cost nothing! I think the prices have almost peaked, they may go up another 10 cents at most imo. By the summer (excluding memorial day and july 4th) i think it will be down to $2.90-$3.10. I guess we have to call that a good thing these days, but if you would have said gas for $3 about 7 years ago people would flip out.
March 13, 200818 yr Well it was the Dems that made it a party thing. Promise: "Democrats have a plan to lower gas prices…join Democrats who are working to lower gas prices now." – Then-Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Press Release, April 19, 2006 Yeah, you gotta love these Dems who have somehow strangely gotten quiet since they took over Congress last year. Still, that is probabaly a good thing. Certain Democrats running for President are promising to tax (punish?????) Big oil to the tune of something like 55 BILLION dollars. This money would allegedly be used for studying ways to implement alternative energy sources. What do you think the chances are that this revenue would be used for this purpose? (IMO, very little.) Do you think this revenue, even if properly used, would actually make a big difference? (IMO, even less than my obove statement). When our government adds these taxes to big oil, who do you think is going to pay for their "added costs?" Will these added costs LOWER the price at the pump??????
March 13, 200818 yr It took me $63.00 to fill up last night. About 15 years ago I went months before spending that much on gas.
