Reds vs Yankees on TV

8 K's for Volquez tonight.

Volquez looked NASTY! Great stuff, at this point he should be on the team. Would like to see him in the rotation. I still think Homer is in. With him and Volquez at 4 and 5.

Who cares if they throw lefty or righty? I want my 5 best arms in the rotation.

From what I have heard Homer has done nothing to put himself in the rotation or above Volquez or Cueto...

Brantley said Bailey is throwing a curveball that will not be called a strike in the big leagues; if it is a strike, he is hanging it; until he shortens it, he can only experience so much success.

I think it's that and his heater often coming out straight as an arrow. The change did look good in spots tonight, so that was nice. Homer has a long way to go IMO...

WK said something interesting (and disturbing) tonight. He said that whoever plays CF will be the leadoff hitter.

Why? Why not someone like Votto?

If Votto leads off Baker should be fired immediatly. Not enough contact and defintly not enough speed. You want your lead off guy to have a high .OBP and speed. Also you want them to be able to work a count. Hatteberg would be a much better lead off guy than Votto. B Phil might be the best lead off hitter we have unless Patterson comes to form, but no chance B Phil leads off.

I think all that means is that either Corey Patterson, Norris Hopper, Ryan Freel, or Jay Bruce is going to lead off...

I don't understand why Votto would lead off... Doesn't have a lot of speed and from last year seems like a guy you want driving in the runs...Right now he seems like a good candidate to bat 7th if he were to start out of the gates, because Dusty is going to put Jr. 3rd, Phillips 4th, Dunn 5th and Edwin 6th. It makes sense because Votto is still in a run producing spot and it keeps look at those R's and L's switching up... As I think about it more the Reds lineup could look really good if it went something like:

CF winner of the race which is a 50/50 shot to go R/L

SS Kep R

RF Jr. L

2B BPhil R

LF Dunn L

3B Edwin R

1B Votto/Hatteberg L

C Ross R

That don't look too shabby... A shot at going switching off R/L's throughout the lineup would drive opposing managers nuts... And I could really see that happening...

Homer did face the Yanks regular guys more than E.V. did, in all fairness to him and Homer's ERA is lower.

Nobody is too concerned about ERA in Spring Training. Harang had an ERA over 5 last spring. There is no comparison between Volquez and Bailey's stuff at this time. Volquez is way ahead.

Unless there is a major change I think Bailey goes to Louisville.

1. Harang

2. Arroyo

3. Cueto

4. Volquez

5. Phogg, Belisle, or Affeldt

With a stronger pen, this is much better than last year. IMO

Speed is great - IF you can get on base. Votto is a strong OBP guy which is what you want, right? You can't score regardless of how fast you are if you don't get on base. Votto draws lots of walks which is why you say Hatteberg should bat leadoff.

Phillips is a power guy - not a high OBP guy.

I think he's basically asying that Bruce is in Louisville to start the year unless he goes crazy the next two weeks. I hate the Patterson deal if it means he platoons w/ Hopper/Freel.

They don't have a leadoff hitter no matter what. I hope Bruce wins the starting CF job and hits leadoff w/ the occasional day off going to Hopper. Everyone is aware that Bruce can hit in Louisville.
