Paris Football Coach Resigns

Featured Replies

Amazing....you would recommend the job you are running from after one year to a FRIEND?

There is nothing like two desperate parties getting together to form a great relationship.

I would stay out of it and let the Paris faithful figure out their future.

Well, if this FRIEND is who I think he is......Paris would be lucky to have him. Just one man's opinion here

I'd say he should send in his resume and snap on a snare drum and he has the job!

A serious question. Can the band not practice on the parking lot (maybe it isn't level, I don't know)? That's how it works at at least one high school with which I'm familiar.

Good luck to the Coach. Remember the Paris posts just before last year's season opener - how they had all those track stars and how they were going to do this and that? Coach was quick to nip that in the bud, and all of his posts were nothing but class all year long, as I recall.

Let us know if there's any word on a replacement.

They practice on the parking lot during their class time. I don't think they march on the field but once a week and that is late at night on Mondays?? I think the main problem has been, football players in the band had to march at halftime, marching is part of their grade. Thompson wouldn't allow that to happen, FB players need to be in the fieldhouse at halftime resting and getting instructed. So choices had to be made. Band lost a few kids and football lost a few kids, and a few mad moms. That is the story I was told that went down. If someone knows different then please do correct me.

Yeah they did and do have some real track stars that was almost all real. Lost one to grades, another ones mom wouldn't let him play or something to that effect???? One of those guys will be a senior this year, he is their RB. One of those fast track guys graduates this year.

Man, I remember when I played, Paris was a power. Tough place to go into and try to win. I really hope this program can get on track soon. I have a special place in my heart for 1A schools like my alma mater.

I also hope the whole band issue isn't as bad as it sounds.

Take that out of the equation and I would place it on my top 10 of places I would love to be the head coach at some day.

They were a force to be reckoned with. Even these last three seasons Paris had some really good teams... I really am suprised they didn't go deep in the playoffs. This years team lacked special components. And I have discussed that a millions times on here. They really hung in and played really hard... Just some things were missing... I tip my hat to this years seniors, I thought they played hard and worked hard, regardless what other may think or say. They had major milestones so to speak!

But anyways your second line. It is only as bad as it's made to be. It is not seen as a problem for some but is for others. It is a gap that is going to have to bridged over there. Madam Principal obviously knows nothing about football. She just needs to be educated. :D

And a FYI- Paris was just named the safest place to live in KY in a recent survey done on one of the Lex. News Stations. Not a bad place to live at all! I'll second that! :thumb:

Why thank you blues.;)

I apologize. There was a huge lag issue on the CPU when I tried to post. Now that I've read the Band issue stuff...man that just comes down to priorities. The new guy has to make that clear from the start. Will it be band or football? Honestly, you can't do both and put everything you've got into them. I'm not going to bash band. They work hard, I don't think that can ever really be questioned. But so do football players. I've had the same conversation with one of my sons. It had to be wrestling or basketball. When they fall in the same season, you just can't do both.

I live fairly close to Paris. I'd have to agree, I think it would be a nice place to live, and I honestly feel that for the kids...you can't beat coming up through a 1A school system. All the teachers get to really know you, the football team (just my opinion here, so be nice) is a much closer group, and playing time tends to be greater with the smaller schools. Not a lot of kids coming through 6A school systems can claim that they started 4 years of Varsity ball. You can't beat playing under Friday night lights, and myself and 2 other guys that went to school with me in a 1A school had the wonderful opportunity to do so. Sure you take your lumps, but by the time we were seniors, 3 of us were 4 year starters, 4 were 3 year guys, and 3 were 2 year starters. That works great for closeness and leadership.

My point being, I'll really be pulling for Paris. I hope they can find themselves making an impact in playoffs soon...unless of course they play Campbellsville High School.

Paris is alot like Frankfort on the field, usually good skill kids with good speed, and when they get a group of good linemen they have good teams. Didn't know the coaches had so much off field issues to deal with, kinda explains why they have a hard time keeping a good coach. Good luck in finding the right fit. Paris will always hold a place in my heart as their 1973 team is wearing my state championship ring.

Nice post. And yes that is wonderful thing about 1A Schools. Some think it is a good thing that the kids can participate in every sport. (I don't think that, I think a kid should stick with one sport, just my opinion) And in Paris' case, the football players are generally the majority of the basketball players or the baseball players and the track team... My only problem with this is, when you are spread thin, then something suffers, and right now the boys basketball is beyond hard times, and the football is following right along. Girls basketball has thrived really well the last 4 years. Nothing is really "well rounded". But that IMO, there are the pros and cons. Academically Paris is good... And that should be priority #1, just seems nothing much else is a priority after that, and that is not fair. When I was in school, on Fridays in town, the town was pretty much decorated in Orange & Black. The crosstown rival was so fun! We had parades, fights, and that other stuff.... I even have suggested that the school start a Pep Club again... I don't know how hard they pushed it though? I think a lot of problems could be solved if the school hired me as a consultant!

Consultant...shoot, I'd say principal:thumb:

You talk about kids playing multiple sports, well at a small school like Paris, if you don't play more than one sport then you probably won't have enough to field a team..

I agree with blues.. If you don't have all the kids play multiple sports then you aren't going to have enough. I also don't think its fair to make a kid choose between football and band. If you are in band, great, but on Friday nights during the game, yes you should be in the locker room with your team. Leave the band stuff for after/during school and Saturday's for competitions.
