How do you know this and do you know who?

I didn't say anything about knowing that.... Isingtheblues did, I concurred that you can't believe everything kids say.

I lettered in four sports at Paris and enjoyed each one. If a kid can do it ... so be it. That's the luxury of a small school. :ylsuper:

One of the pros of a small school. What an acomplishment.:thumb:

I think you are still missing out on the main-liner I am seeing as part of the problem that you asked about. Small school and kids are spread thin. Male population for sports isn't all that big right now. Basketball team def. struggles, football falling on hard times, and while they were playing basketball winning all three or however many games, they could've/should've been in the weightroom, then spring baseball begins and there goes many more weeks of missing out in the weightroom... Now if you and whoever else sees that as no problem, then I guess it must be okay.

Equipment? Why would they be worried about equipment right now when I'm sure all 3 of these guys are trying to bring Paris football back to the days when they played! It could be about them taking over Spring Practice :sssh:

It was a joke, if you couldn't tell?:walk:

KyFans11, I agree with you. Playing several sports is a good thing, but can be a bad thing for each of the sports. I am not saying that players should not play other sports, but it is hard to prepare for a sport if you are involved in some other sport.

In football it is very beneficial to lift weights and condition all off season, to participate in Spring Football, to participate in 7 on 7 competitions, to attend summer football camps. If a player is playing basketball and baseball, in addition to football, then that player will not be able to participate in the above activities. Baseball and basketball to have year around programs, so you can have the same argument for those sports as well.

Again, not knocking young athletes for being involved in other sports, but it can take away from one sport.

My son did play baseball, basketball, and football, football was always number one. Two years ago, he comes to me and says that he is no longer going to play baseball and basketball. I asked him why, and he said that he wanted to start lifting weights and preparing for football so he can get better. He has done just that. The entire off season I work out with him, and it has helped tremendously. Not bad for a twelve year old to realize this.

This could obviously be its own thread. Polling the bluegrass whether or not small a schooled students should be allowed to play other sports, or if this issue of not weightlifting is happening to other schools. I don't understand the difference between weightlifting and staying active anyway. They are running and building leg strength anyway. And a baseball player is building arm strength from pitching/batting, and who said that these other sports don't have weightlifting exercises for them anyway?

How do you know this and do you know who?

These 2 players said they knew the one guy because he coached middle school, and the other because he takes pictures and keeps stats for high school. The other they didnt know who it was but said they had seen him around the games.

Name the sport, if you don't hit the IRON hard you will not succeed.

If you don't know the difference between weightlifting and staying active, "you have never put your hand in the dirt".

In 1997 Bourbon County won the state championship and there offensive left tackle benched 137 pounds at the end of that year. The strongest player on that team benched 240 and played DL.

Now Now Now, I never said they shouldn't be allowed to play more then one sport...

Read my post again... if you are satisfied with being medicore or less then average, then so be it....

Every sport is a different type of conditioning. Basketball is a training at high intervals because you run non-stop. Football you sprint and stop, sprint and stop. Totally two different types of conditioning. How many basketball players do you see "bulked up"?

They can't have all that bulk that you get from pumping iron. How many basketball players max out each week with squats, bench and clean?

That was a special team and very special coach and a bunch of guys that listened to one of the best coaches in the state of KY and learned how to win. They wanted to win. And they had a lot heart!

Well goodluck to them, I hope they can put something together. My understanding is the "band kids" have been the most consistent coming to weightlifting. As Mrs Grigson says "kudos".;)

And it has never happened again for them.
