Paris Football Coach Resigns

Featured Replies

What is the band issue...?

Lets see.. where to begin..The band wants to practice on the football field and trys to tell the football coaches when they can practice and when they cant.. And then at halftime during the home games it has been an issue of whether or not the kids can march or if they need to go in the locker room. Then I heard a rumor that one applicant from last year didn't even get a second interview because he didn't see what the band had to do with the football program.

Can you blame all the past coaches for finally getting fed up?

This will be a tough job to fill.

Is Coach Thompson going to be a Head Coach in Florida?

Having a great marching band at your school is a great thing. But marching bands need to realize one important thing, that they are there because of FOOTBALL and not the other way around. Schools that don't have football teams, don't have marching bands. Anybody ever heard of Providence, University Heights, Lee County, Barbourville, Lyon County, Robertson County, Lexington Sayre, Livingston Central, Jackson City, etc. having a marching band? Nope. Want to take a guess at why?

Because most of the money that is spent on all of the instruments comes from football...band has to be the most expensive activity that (typically) generates the lowest revenue.

Most band generate no revenue. Most money comes from concession for football & basketball games.

Trinity hasn't had a marching band since the mid -60s. It is very expensive. There is not that much interest in reviving a true marching band. Point: Trinity uses its funds elsewhere based on interest.

St. Xavier's band survives by allowing any Catholic grade school student 6th grade and up to play (boy or girl) and any girl in high school may participate.

Point: St. X has modified membership rules to help this survive.

Male has nice band. They have no wrestling program.Point:activiites offered differ from school to school in Jeferson County.

Do many Paris kids get scholarships to UK or U of L for their band ability?

Band Director=Principal's wife? How many participate in band and what fees are charged? I'd say some discussion of how the Paris financial pie is split in the future is warranted.

?? Maybe he will get on here and answer that.

No fee. It is a class. I'd say a good third of the school is in band.

I was told that he is going to be a Head Coach and a teacher in Central Florida.

As you know my emotions are running high on this subject.

Just about everything you have read is true. It is way way past due to "clean house" at Paris.

Whoever brought her out of the music room at the elementary and made her high school principal needs to be hung.

This same principal, does not stay past half-time, nor does the band. And I have NEVER known her to attend an away game. Maybe Bourbon County game.

It's time for Paris parents and "$upportor$" to come out and make a stand.

Now one more thing I have to add. And I will say it again and again.... Paris Alumni have to give back. With the way Paris is growing, most growth is in the BC school district, and most of the kids go there.

And before anyone asks me, what have I done. Don't go there. But I am only one person. And if that is the way it is going to be, then stick a fork in me, I'm done. Can't do it alone.

I don't know all reasons why Coach T is leaving, but I wish him the best of luck. It was nice knowing him.:thumb:

Administration doesnt want to put the effort into it. Students are becoming less motivated to play. They will go out and hire a good coach but then when that coach realizes he doesnt have the support he needs to keep his team to have consistant winning seasons they bail. Washington the coach before Thompson was not the case were I think it was family problems and he needed to be with his family, but he coached some good Paris teams. Paris needs to go hire a former Paris football player or assistant with some coaching experiance who cares about the program and is willing to stay for the long haul to give this program a chance to rebuild.

The band never makes it past qrtr. finals.

Their parents are dedicated and to tell you the truth I wouldn't do what they do, well maybe because I wouldn't do that for band, but then again I never had kids in the band?

Football doesn't even get to do split the pot at football games! That is for academic team or chess team or something like that?

Any idea as to who Paris might look to in the immediate future?

NO CLUE... I only know of one assistant that would maybe consider. I have ideas of who would make a great coach, but I doubt he would do it. He is one of or prob. the best QB that walked the halls at PHS.
