Health care & medicine is GREAT but the cost is ENORMOUS!!

 

Again, another off base comment & several posts after do not address 90% of my post. Do "conservative" or just RTS think people play no impact on environment. Do you really think our world population going from 700 million people for most of history to billions doesn't make a difference to our environment. Hunters & gathers did not harm the ozone but I still find it is naive to think that aerosal cans, car emissions (how many cars are there in the world?), factory pollution (smoke stacks), etc. doesn't harm the environment as RTS has stated.

Global Warming is really a misnomer. While the temps on Earth are going up it will mean overall climate change. Wetter weather in some areas and drier weather in others. And yes, possibly the start of a cooling if the Greenland ice cap begins to melt in earnest. It's proven that CO2 causes global warming. Millions of years ago there was a huge volcanic eruption in Siberia that raised the temperature so much that about 90% of all living things on land died out. Today the temperatures are rising more quickly than normal and there aren't any huge volcanoes (flood basalts) letting out that much CO2 so there has to be a source. Of course burning fossil fuels is one of the main causes. Add that to deforestation (which includes more burning) added to a slight natural upswing and humans are accelerating something that normally takes thousands of years.

 

While I don't think that nuclear power is hurting the cause of slowing climate change; I also don't like the idea of waste that is deadly for 50,000 years and no where to put it. We can generate electricity with the motion of ocean waves. I causes no pollution, no heat, and is a constant generating source. There is also the option of putting solar panels on roofs (a business I'd love to start if I had the capital) so that houses generate their own power. There are a lot of ways to get power without hurting nature too much and we need to give those fledgling industries some help.

 

RTS is right, we are but a spec...

 

Carbon dioxide is released to the atmosphere by a variety of natural sources, and over 95% percent of total CO2 emissions would occur even if humans were not present on Earth. For example, the natural decay of organic material in forests and grasslands, such as dead trees, results in the release of about 220 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide every year. This carbon dioxide alone is over 8 times the amount emitted by humans. As of 2004, around 27 gigatonnes of CO2 are released from fossil fuels per year worldwide.

 

The hoax is that attempting to claim that one variable (human release of CO2)among thousands in the equation is the "cause" of climate change. We can not predict the weather over the next 3 days with a great deal of accuracy, but we are going to claim that we know what weather will be like half a century from now... IMO the Earth throughout history has warmed and cooled and will continue to do so regardless of what humans do.

Here's my theory...if it's unnecessary, or preventable, then it's our responsibility to take care of our planet, no matter how miniscule the impact. I, for one, would like to see the my daughter, son, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, great-greatgrandchildren..........have a healthy, livable planet to inhabit.

 

Of course, I also want them to live in a country of sound fiscal health...

:thumb: I hate how a lot of the anti-global warming people are portrayed as gluttonous with their gas. Unfortunately, a lot of people act that way. I am pretty confident global warming does not exist (at least man-made) but either way I still believe it is our moral obligation to take care of this earth through individual energy conservatism-- try not to drink bottled water, carpool/don't drive, NOT take 50 minute showers, etc. But no one wants to sacrifice.

 

I agree wholeheartedly with many of the points in this statement. Regardless of whether global warming is occuring, the main issue should be to accept that we as humans (and unfortunately Americans more than any other nation) are responsible for many dangerous changes to our environment. Through our over-consumption of resources, wastefullness, and disregard of the need for alternative energy technologies, we have squandered much of what nature has provided for us in a relatively short period of time.

Which is why the title of this thread is disturbing to me. Global warming may be "over" but it is NOT a reason to buy an SUV.

If I misunderstood I apologize, you are right there are sights to support any issue and position, which was my point.

This country does fight pollution, and I'm glad it does. But like it or not, there is nothing we can do to control temperatures.

Unfortunately, China and India do not fight pollution. China's air is so bad in places that people have to cover their faces.

This is true and although I do not think we are in "control" of global warming, there are many ways to conserve and use energy smarter. I am for a serious effort toward alternative fuel and kicking oil to the curb for national security issues the rest is fringe benefit to me.
