Congrats to these fine players. How Austin Kessen(Bellevue) isnt on this list is beyond me. The kid averaged over 20pts a game the final half of the season and I think ended up with an average of 15 a game. He was clearly one of the best 3pt shooters in the region hitting on 10 in one game. Just wanted to give him props on here but not take away from the other kids because all the players listed are fine players.

Simply a matter of his staff not participating in the nomination process nor the voting. Agreed, he should have been honored, but he needed to be nominated to be placed on the ballot

Absolutely deserves recognition. Austin is a fine player. I have seen him light up quite a few three this year. Nice player on both sides of the ball.

Hill got it in 07; who was it in 06?

Hill got it his junior and senior year. (Division I POY)

His junior year, however, I believe Vories of Highlands got the overall award that is awarded at the state tournament. Hill got that award his senior year.

I believe that Vories tied with Romes (Beechwood) that year for the overall POY.

You cold be right, but I remember Vories beig honored that year at the state tournament.

You are right. Vories won the award and was honored at the Sweet Sixteen.

Love has had a great year for the Blue Lightning. That being said, I kind of scratch my head as to why Alex Hall did not win POY honors. He did play for an undefeated basketball team that won the conference. The last game I attended between the two schools, he outplayed Love in my opinion. I also think Brian was the best player on Villa's team, but acknowledge the award usually goes to a senior. Why not award the senior whose team dominated the conference by 3 wins??

Congrats to all the players named to All-Conference teams. Arrez Henderson and Corey Sorrell were a pleasure to watch play this year. Congrats also to Love from Villa. I hope I see basketball in the future for all 3 players.

First of all get the facts straight. Kessen was nominated and was on the ballot. As was Derek Bryan. You should not point fingures at a staff for not nominating when that was not the issue........

:irked: First of all, you need to get your facts strait. Austin Kessen was not nominated, neither was Derek Bryan. As a matter of fact, not a single player from the Tigers were nominated. Seeing as the nominating is done by the staff, I have no problem with saying that this can pretty much be creditted to them for not nominating anyone. I said in my first post, I agree that Kessen was deserving of All Conference honors, but he was not on the ballot.

I suppose I would not be so sure of this, had I not personally seen the ballot, which I have...

You probably don't want to walk down this road, do so at your own peril.

Greendevil is way right with what he says, and it is on the staff.

I've never understood the logic of the DI/DII/DIII designations for the teams. It says two things to the rest of Kentucky:

A) We want to be like Ohio, and we even use their school-size breakdown designators to prove it, and/or

B) We want Kentucky to go to a class system for basketball.

There was no tie I can assure you but Romes was neck and neck with Vories in the voting. Those two played a lot of AAU ball together and had a lot of respect for each other. Romes is having a very nice college career over at the Mount and Vories is logging a lot of minutes down at Lindsey Wilson for the Blue Raiders as a sophomore.

I keep seeing references to the NKCA, Divisions I, II and III from time to time. I admit that I really don't know a thing about it.

Which teams participate in this conference? Is it all 8th and 9th Region schools, or are any 10th Region schools included? What is the breakdown re. I, II and III?

Thanks to anyone who can post this info.

It's primarily the "old" 9th Region, before the region was broken up and split off.

The Northern Kentucky Athletic Association, NKAC Conference, was restructured back in the early 80's to include all Northern Kentucky schools. It was then that some of the larger schools were designated Division 1, mid-sized schools Division II, and the smallest schools Division III.

It was split up primarily so that all of the teams in each division could play home and away, or at least once each season to determine an NKAC Conference champion in each division.

Basically, it was one big conference split into three distinct competitive factions.

All of the original participants have remained loyal to the NKAC, which continues to exist in that framework today, despite several of its members being re-aligned with different regions. The breakup of the 9th Region did not occur until 1996-97, long after the NKAC, with its three divisions in place, had been functioning as we know it today for nearly fifteen years.

I hope that makes sense.
