They are very deep this year, and it's paid off a few times.

On the Bulldogs' slow start, senior Arrez Henderson had this to say: "We’ve got young players on the team and this is their first time at Highlands, playing against a crowd like this that’s always loud. They’re louder than CovCath. I guess the intensity got to some of us in the first half. We just needed to get patient to get good shots."

It is going to be very tough to win the 9th region. There are several really tough teams to contend with. It will be interesiting to see how the region plays out.

While Holmes obviously has the upper hand right now, being undefeated in nky action, 14 straight dating back to last year, and beating 2 of the 3 top teams so far, Highlands, CCH, and Boone all could potentially come out of the 9th region.

Haven't had a chance to get to a CCH game this year at CCH, but I know at points last night, it was rockin inside that Highlands gym.

Who will Simpson replace in the starting line up when he comes back? IMO McGraw is better than Simpson and is the man on that Highlands team. No disrespect to Simpson, but he tries to do a little too much sometimes and hurts his team with his shot selection. With that being said though, he is still a premier player.

 

Also, something to remember is Arrez sat out much of the first half last night in foul trouble. When he was out, that's when Highlands made their big runs.

A few things that may worry him, his Team getting a little full of them selves, poor free throw shooting, to many turnovers, missing layups. Another words, if this Team plays like their capable of playing, they should not lose to anyone in the 9th.

I think everyone knows, if they play the way they're capable of playing, nobody will contend with them. The way they closed out the game last night on a 25-15 run to force overtime and then the 17-5 (42-20 overall) in overtime proved when they play the way they're capable of, they're one tough team.

 

Arrez needs to start contributing earlier in the game though. He is the catalyst and when he is throwing down dunks and scoring, that gets his other teammates fired up because they see how hard their senior leader is going. Going in to halftime last night, I believe Arrez only had maybe 4 points. That 20 point performance he had in the second half needs to come earlier in the game. Granted he was in foul trouble early, with his ability he needs to take over early and keep them out of situations and holes that they dug themselves in to last night and against CCH. Nobody is going to stop him man to man.

Who will Simpson replace in the starting line up when he comes back?

 

That's a good question. With him back in the lineup, they will be rotating their big men more often. They will have the three guards (McGraw, Kowolonek, and Simpson) and they can shuffle the forwards around (Watson, Eaton, Hurtt, Grote, etc). You also have to consider that Stein will be back too, giving them more to think about. My guess is, Hurtt won't start, but he'll be the first man off the bench. We'll let the coach decide that one though.

How much will the injury to Simpson affect him when he returns? Is it his shooting or other hand that was broken?
