Well the last two years at GC was down years, low number and under classman. The new coach is going to look good for about 3 years before it goes back down hill.

 

Better do your homework. The Golden Lions will see the talent pool improve steadily over the next 7-8 years.

I have no idea about hiring a coach, but limiting it to only candidates with head coaching experience with the state of Garrard County is silly. Garrard County is a very low rung team and they can not command the type of coach similar to Boyle County. This means that if they require head coaching experience, then they will only get a former no win former head coach.

 

You are so wrong. The "coaching fraternity" considers this a good position/opportunity. Hide, watch, and don't be shocked at the name of the next head coach.

Sounds like a lot of "might be" situations. Why would Perry & Hester want to return? They both are in situations that have state titles. What is the deal with the Goldsmith transfer?

I asked myself the same question about Hester and Perry. I dont think Hester or Perry would leave. Im pretty sure Hester doesnt want to move from Boyle... i think his son is an upcoming freshman, and i think his wife is a teacher at Boyle.

Why would Hester want to leave Boyle County, where he is a defensive coordinator, to be an assistant at Garrard?

I asked myself the same question about Hester and Perry. I dont think Hester or Perry would leave. Im pretty sure Hester doesnt want to move from Boyle... i think his son is an upcoming freshman, and i think his wife is a teacher at Boyle.

 

I can't imagine that happening either. They still live in Garrard County, but I really can't imagine leaving a place like Boyle to be an assistant at Garrard. It's home, but you already failed as head coach there so there likely wouldn't be any upward mobility.

So.. is it eveyone's thinking that only a coach with head coaching experience will only be looked at?

In my opinion, saying "head coach experience" was basically meant to dissuade current assistants from applying for the job. They might look at assistants without experience, but not anyone current on staff at Garrard.

Successful head coaching experience would be even better. Successful assistant coaching experience might not be bad. Despite what gnat is saying, it is hard to imagine Garrard as an attractive position.

How so? It isn't Boyle County or Lincoln County, but why wouldn't it be considered "attractive?" They have a terrific field, nice weight-room, new school being built with all new facilities to come, growing community, and relatively easy to compete in district and class.

 

I realize winning state championships might be difficult at Garrard, but winning 7+ games and making somewhat deep plunges into the playoffs isn't out of the question.

How do you know the talent pool is improving over the next 7-8 years? Did the kids have a great middle school year or is it based on little league success? Hard to imagine how you can determine talent pool for kids that young. Educate me!

New name to consider Paul Rohr had some good teams at East Jessamine current assistant at Woodford Co would be an excellent choice
