So you think the winner of Bellevue/Dayton should get a spot in the regional?

Well considering under the current system yeah they should since they will be either district runner up or district champ. Now I agree that the class system is far off because of money but then that doesn't excuse the class system from going into play in lets say....baseball. And even though it is a "pie in the sky" argument it does not mean it is not the right thing to do....and it is the right thing to do. Financially also the small schools never get a piece of the regional money. Look just to the 10th where ALL schools share in the regional money.........Now money isnt the only object here but when a Highlands or NCC can guarantee themselves an extra 5,000 for the athletic budget every year by seeding and the other schools can guarantee they will never see that money....well.......maybe if they won't go to classes the 'big" schools could learn to be more equitable much like in the 10th

You're proving my point as to how idiotic this whole thing is . One district does it this way, one region does this. It's crazy! KHSAA has to be one of the most screwed up organization in the nation. A room full of kindergartners could come up with something better than what we have. I agree that as long as insanity rules then schools should do what is in their best interest. What I won't agree with is that the system is worth a darn. It's not.

the bottom line is the "system" has failed the 1 of the 2 best teams and worked for 1 of 2 teams that would never see the regional tournemant. This gives a new meaning to March madness, oops I mean Feb madness hahaha quit whinning and go play people.

MC we are in agreement that the system is screwed up. And yeah I understand that neither team is as good as the other three. That is why they take their chances on the draw which by the way this draw doesn't happen very often!

You are correct. First time this has happened in at least 6 years that I can recall. As for the money, I've attended the district draw before and if I'm not mistaken HHS and NCC have offered to split their regional share with the other schools in the district if they would have seeded. State needs to step in and mandate either seeding or draw for entire state.

Seed in the odd years and draw in the even years. A district like this will never seed and other districts will never draw but you can't blame them for doing it.

What so wrong about? So, you'll get 2 "bad" games in the first round of the regionals instead of 1. It's just as wrong to have a district winner have to face the Holmes/CovCath loser, isn't it? The split up of the 34th and 35th Districts is more of a joke than the 36th drawing.

The biggest shaft is the team that gets to play the loser of the CovCath/Holmes game while one of the other teams gets to play the Bellevue/Dayton team. Think about this if you will. My guess it will be HHS and Bellevue/Dayton from the 36th, then CovCath/Holmes from the 35, then Dixie and Ludlow/Villa from the 34th, and finally Boone Co and (lets just say) Conner. Now lets just set up a Ninth Region draw...

Lets say for a example; HHS, CovCath, Dixie and Boone are winners while Dayton, Holmes, Ludlow and Conner are the losers. Now if you are CovCath you can't play Holmes so who would you rather play in your first round game? Think Boone or HHS or even Dixie are praying that they don't get Holmes? It just isn't fair that two teams will get a walk over, while the other two winners will have to fight like hell to get to the second round, just because the 34th, and 36th refuse to seed. So it's just not the teams in the district who are getting shafted by not seeding.... Understand what I am trying to say?

This is the kind of stuff that will continue to go on as long as they allow schools to continue with the blind draw.

As for the 34th District they also use the blind draw but it doesn't much matter in that district since it is so weak on the boys side. You say Ludlow or Villa will make it to the region but if I were handicapping the 34th it would be 1. Dixie 2. Villa 2A LLoyd 3. Ludlow..

I think everyone needs to quit bellyaching and each team needs to come ready to play in every game during this tournament. YOu never know what could happen. So what, does Highlands want a cakewalk into the finals or how about NCC? Go out and play ball and quit worrying about a couple of small schools getting a chance to earn a trip to the Regional tournament. Back in 76' didnt Bellevue go to the Regional tourney behind Steve Ridder and beat the Bluebirds. Who knows what could happen.

I think its fine and you never know who could get upset. I do think Bellevue will probably win the game vs. Dayton as the Greendevils are just too banged up and playing too many younger players. Coach Vories will have the Tigers ready to play.

Highlands was going to face NCC anyway in the likely final so why not get em out of the way early. This way if they make it to the finals they can rest McGraw for the REgional tourney as I think a McGraw'less Bird team can still beat Bellevue. I'd rather have him play a tough first game then a tough final or 2nd game. Probably getting way ahead of myself here as the Breds and Wildcats are going to have something to say but just my opinion.

I vote that the KHSAA mandate that all districts seed.

Can someone give me the rotation of this District tourney? I know 2 yrs ago when Jeff Vories was a senior at Highlands it was held at Bellevue. Last year where was it held and who is next in line?

Well Plato fortunately or unfortunately your vote doesn't count so.......until the KHSAA classifies basketball you are going to have this. Lets look at another district. Beechwood would have a real shot at a Class A regional championship but now with the district they are in they are screwed.

Programs that vote against seeding don't want to EARN a berth in the regional. They are hoping to catch a break and admitting inferiority.
