36th District Draw

Featured Replies

As for the money, I've attended the district draw before and if I'm not mistaken HHS and NCC have offered to split their regional share with the other schools in the district if they would have seeded. State needs to step in and mandate either seeding or draw for entire state.

If this is the case and they're still not seeding, then there's more to it than just doing what is right for the schools as someone has stated.

I would think that 2 tournaments A,2A,3A in one and 4A,5A and 6A in another would bring in more money.

Its called GATE. But I would be cool with a Final Four Regional.

If Gate was the reason, then why not get all the best teams in the Regional Tournament. Do away with the Districts and just have one big Regional Tournament. Seed the top 6 teams and go from there. Who wants to go watch Holmes play Bellevue or Dayton in this years Regional tournament?

How many state champs have come out of the 9th Region since 1981?

Currently the 9th does not have a team that has won the Sweet 16.

How often has Dayton and Bellevue been on the play in game over the past 25 yrs? Seriously I think it may only be 3 or 4 times.

As far as upsetting a team in District to get there I will probably agree with you on that as far as having to earn a trip. But like I said, this doesnt happen too often and when it does the other teams just need to sack up and play. Tournament time is do or die anyway.

And the blind draw wont change to seeding anytime soon so it is what it is. More often than not the Birds will get a favorable draw in this tournament. The toughest scenario for the Birds is this year as they have to win two tough games to get to the final. Most other years they only have to win 1. And how about when the Birds get the spot where they only have to beat a Bellevue or Dayton to get to the Finals. Then you have NCC or Newport crying foul. Its a mess all the way around I guess.

That's why you seed it. You play your way into the tournament. It's not the luck of the draw. It's like a 4-25 team getting the #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. It doesn't make sense.

Bellevue and Dayton could combine enrollment and would still be smaller than Newport, NCC and HIghlands.

That is not true.

Bellevue and Dayton combined is 82 students more than NCC

Maybe the parents and fans of both teams, I dont know.

Thanks, this was exactly what I wanted to see.

Well if they did go with seating this year, the seating would have been:

1-Highlands

2-Newport (they won the regular season game)

3-NCC

4-Bellevue

5-Dayton

Currently the 9th does not have a team that has won the Sweet 16.

And it's supposed to be tougher to compete against those teams?

How about we just take the top 8 teams ranked each year and let them play in the REgional Tourney and say screw the District Tournaments? Would that make you happy. Better yet lets just go ahead and crown a team based on their record and not even have a tournament. Its why they play the game, it is to give all kids the opportunity to compete.

Kids having the opportunity to COMPETE is what I'm talking about. You compete by playing a district schedule to EARN a high seed and then you take care of business in the district and advance to the regional without the help of good fortune.

You are teaching the students at these programs that they are inferior and need help to get to the regional instead of earning it. Most of the best Class A teams around here would take offense at needing a break/luck to get to the regional. If you aren't good enough to earn a high seed or upset a high seed then you should stay home.

I can see where drawing is best for the smaller , weaker teams and seeds are better for the stronger teams . Seeds make for a better regional tournament with the better teams. If I were a coach in a small school I would want the draw ,because maybe I would draw another small school and would have a chance of winning and getting a cut of the regional tournament money, and to a small school that money is inportant. I know, because I've been there. I can see where seeds are bad also for the larger powerhouse teams ,in that they have to play every team in their district twice in order establish a seed position and it would hurt a good team and their crowds to play these weaker teams. The example ,I'm speaking of is the 39th district. Mason Co doesn't want to play those teams during the season and those other teams in the district doesn't want to play them. I can see both sides of drawing and seeds..:ylsuper:

You keep discrediting the coaches/administration at these schools because they are doing what is best for their school and team.... Also I think it is discredit to the kids to say "if you aren't good enough just stay home." They work hard. They play hard. So they hope for a good draw, so what? Its not like when they don't get a good draw every other year they say "well we didn't get a school we match up well with so we'll go ahead an forfeit." They always "compete" as well as they can with whomever they draw. They can be allowed to hope for a good draw without being scared of a less favorable one...

If they wanted to what's best for their school and team they should consider finding a coach capable of trying to actually earn a top seed and then win a district tournament.
