StepYoGameUp Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Should players be required to keep their shirts tucked in? I have always wondered why this was a rule? What does everyone else think?
CC83MVP Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I'm not sure what this rule is preventing, but I don't have a problem with it.
TURBOENNIS Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Have no ideal why, it really don't bother me whether they are in or out.
Billy Clyde Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I think they should. I don't know about the rule or what it was meant for. However, IMO I think it teaches the kids some self respect to a certain extent and keeps them from looking like slobs.
MCHSindians08 Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I've always thought it was to help the refs tell if a player grabbed another player's jersey, but I could be wrong. I do agree that it teaches the players self respect and makes them look more professional.
lewiscoref Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I think it looks better with the jersey tucked in. Plus, as long as jerseys are on some people, it would make it easier to move.
racer4life Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I think they should. I think it looks terrible with them hanging out.
fcjolly21 Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 It doesn't really bother me either way...But i've noticed that the ref's will usually warn the kids a couple of times before they take action.
greendevil Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 It should be a rule, but to an extent. I've been to a game where an official stopped the game as the ball was being brought up the court because a kids shirt wasn't tucked in. I am all for their shirts being tucked in, but at the same time, this is a basketball game, not a beauty contest.... Earlier this year at a certain game a ref told a coach that a player needed to get smaller shorts because his shorts were maybe a bit big and couldn't keep his shirt tucked in... This is way way way too far... They actually had to have another kid on the bench go to the locker room and change shorts with him. Its a good thing that kid didn't get in or those big shorts might have fell off him...
bellalumni40 Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I dont care one way or the other, it doesnt bother me. I think maybe some reasoning that it is a rule would be to keep the players from sagging their shorts halfway off their butt. If it is untucked it would be easier to do that than if it were tucked in.
ANYTHINGGOES Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 It is a rule and if a kid has to be told to many times to put it in he can be asked to leave the game and a warning for delay of game is recorded for the team. It is required for all shirts to be tucked unless the uniform is designed to be out(not many if any are now). I really don't know why this is a rule but the best I can figure is that it looks better and also it gives the defense less to grab on to.

TubbyCAT Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I feel that it should be tucked in and that every player should try and keep it tucked in. However, it is inevitable that it will become un-tucked through the course of a game. So I do not see a reason to go over board with it.
Sting Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I think tucked in is a sign of neatness and respect.
1734 Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 They would stay tucked in better if they would pull their shorts up some!!!!
