IF UK is invited to the CBI....

Featured Replies

You forgot:

"...at the beginning of the season when we still think we're going to the Final 4."

No, I'm talking about if UK finished 7-22 and put together and exhibition tournament - I'd be there supporting them.

How will they pull that off?? They are 17 spots away from 200

This team is becoming a little better each game, even though a few on here would like to think its not happening :sssh:

Absoulutely they should accept. Why not get a couple of extra weeks of practice and games to try to build some momentum heading into next season? It would give them a chance to end the season on a positive note.

I agree, with gato.:thumb:

If learning Billy G's system is part of the reason for this slide, they need to accept whatever tournament they can get invited to, so that they can continue practing.

How excited are recruits going to be when you say "we played in the BCI this year!!"???

As excited as saying, we didn't play in any postseason. If you can practice more, do it.

Not much difference than accepting a bowl bid to almost anywhere and then using that extra time to work with the younger players for next season.

How about if we just take an invitation to the D2 national tournament and win it? Would that be "awesome?"

Folks, we're getting invited to this tourney because WE SUCKED the entire season! I'm supposed to feel good about that? I wouldn't watch this tournament if they gave me center-court free tickets and sat me next to the centerfold from the Miss Hooters 2008 calendar.

Hey, when I was in high school, I was a horrible basketball player, losing nearly every pick up game of ball I played.....until I challenged the elementary school kids. I finally knew then what it felt like to be Wilt Chamberlain, and despite the little competition, those wins felt as good to me as if I had hit the winning shot in the olympic games to win the gold medal for good old US and A. You bet it would be awesome.

UK having a young team and with losing two of their top 5 players to graduation, it is not about what the fans want but rather the extra time Billy G can spend with his young team.

If the fans can't see that, than that is their problem.

No, they should just sit it out. Dont accept.

I think they should accept. The mock bracket from last season wasn't that bad. The best way to get better is to play in real game situtions. Take advantage of this tournament. Plus, I gurantee if they win the confidence will start to build. I have saw small HS teams rebuilding and win a small nothing tournament that was a huge turning point to the future success.

Anybody that feels that they should not accept a bid to the CBI or NIT doesn't really know what its like to play college basketball, IMO. Its easy to forget how much work and dedication goes into playing a collegiate sport - especially at the DI level, where extensive travel is involved. If there is a chance to reward that hard work and dedication with a less-than-prestigious postseason tournament, I promise you that that is much better than receiving nothing for your season (especially for the seniors).

If you're telling me that BCG is going to sit all of his players that are not returning the following season so that next year's team can get some game/tourney action, I'm OK with it. However, you don't believe that nor do I.

Two problems with your argument:

1. If I'm BCG, I decline and tell my potential recruits that its unacceptable for our team to play in such a tourney. I want my recruits to know that we're serious about getting back to a consistent Top 10 program and that a 3rd tier postseason tourney is below our standards.

2. A bowl bid for a football team allows about a month to 50 days of extra practice. That's outstanding and makes accepting even a lower tier bid worthwhile. Accepting a bid to the BCI might garner you an extra 2 to 3 practices so your young players are actually getting nothing extra .

You are only allowed 15 practices before a Bowl game...

OK. 15 vs 1 to 3. How much better do we think next year's players are going to get as a result of these extra few practices? Do we think BCG is suddenly going to be giving Mike Williams reps at the 5? Is he going to be working with Mark Krebs on perimeter defense?

The "extra practice" argument is a fallacy.

That is definately a "good" message to send to recruits and their families.

Sure he is going to play his seniors, but we only lose Bradley and Crawford. It's not like we're playing 4 or 5 seniors now. Assuming everyone would be healthy, you would basically have 6-8 guys getting playing time that are expected to be back next year.

I still say the positives outweigh the negatives. We need to swallow our pride, accept that this season is not up to UK's standards, and build for the future.
