Lexington Christian fined over financial aid to athletes

If the students did not play sports should the school allow churches to fund minority students education?

Let me make this very clear, discuss this issue and NO other allegations, or schools.

This is one of many reasons why the KHSAA is a terrible organization, people in Lexington know that Lex. Christiana ctively recruits student athletes in town. Yet the punishment is less than a slap on the wrist.

I agree and look at what LCA gets in the football district. Raceland, Fairview, Paris, and Nicholas all of which have limited funds and can't go out and get numerous players every year. It's a bunch a crap public schools got to put up with this stuff every year. No matter what realignment the KHSAA does it won't matter because you are always going to have most if not all private schools in the title games (Football just about every single year). I know this is a discussion about LCA but they are obvious cheaters and shouldn't be allowed to compete for the post season next year, there is a major problem with our high school athletic system if you can do these things and not get banned from somekind of on field action. :fight:

:dancingpa Wow, I've been looking for some great bulletin board material!!! Safe to say... we'll be hitting the weights a little harder tomorrow because if this. Anyone with a pulse knows that LCA recruits, screens kids, and limits their enrollment to remain 1A. Maybe the KHSAA will step up and do the right thing... Maybe? Either way, doesn't matter to me or my boys, we'll be talking about working to the point when we can compete with LCA every set, every rep, every day. I rarely post, but this one is interesting. Nice post above...:thumb:

Wonder who turned them in......Lex Cath or Scott County??!!!!:laugh:

Are you accusing LCA of turning away students so they can keep their enrollment figure down? Got some proof of that?

Most private schools I know of don't turn anyone away that's willing to pay the tuition and fees.

Agree with you Fletch. Don't know if true or not but understood that Brigidit Devrees is a graduate of Lex Cath. Does anyone know if that's correct?
I believe she's a Henry Clay grad ...

I was told by a person in the know at LCA that their board voiced a desire to limit enrollment so they will stay Class A. If you think about it, why would they want to get any larger. Now, they can defeat all their smaller and less funded competition and steam roll on into Louisville to compete on the carpet for the title every year. Other public school simply don't have the funding and are not permitted to recruit as are private schools!

If you think further, these schools don't even have to recruit. All they have to do is establish a decent program, hire a good coach and set back and wait. Word travels fast when you are winning and kids from the surrouding counties or school soon decide the grass is greener at the private school. Especially if they are receiving improper financial aid to assist with their cost of attendance.

You can go on their web site and in the athletic section it informs you if you plan to play football at LCA, not only do you have to pay tuition to attend, you must also pay for most of you football equipment. The tuition is also listed and I believe it is in the $7000 range for senior high.

Until the KHSAA steps in and does something about "legal recruiting," how can you expect the other class A school to play on a level field with schools such as these?

Proof??? Wait and see if LCA bumps up in 2009... that's the most substantial proof available. If you can throw a 90 mph fast ball, squat 500 lbs, or dunk a basketball you go to the top of the waiting list to enroll as long as it doesn't flirt with the cut off line for 1A. Need proof for that? Go for a visit and walk the halls, take a look at a weight session, watch a basketball game or check out their baseball squad this spring. It's a Gold mine.

None of that is proof of anything ...

I've heard that, but if it's true, does anyone know of an instance where LCA turned down a qualified student that was willing to fork over the tuition money?

KHSAA is not going to do anything to upset the gravy train. The private schools and the big money public schools can do what they want. We tried to use portable lights at our field 2 years ago and were told you can not do that, Covington Cath. wanted them this year and now its ok. No it is not fair but money talks and the rest of us can just live with it. If this were most other 1A schools we would be fined, banned from post season next year, and the players would be ineligieble to play.

You forgot tarred and feathered, publically flogged and exiled into the unexplored frontier.

You can roll your eyes all you want but it is true.

I would like you to start another thread on the no portable lights, that would be something interesting to explore.
