This is kind of an intriguing possibility. I don't know how some of people around the program will feel about Be potentially leading the program after some of the difficulties he has had in the past.

 

Just speculating about history repeating itself by Watusi. I know nothing of the past, but do know they are doing a pretty good job at LCC.

I cant confirm it but I heard he was going to Louisville Ballard.

 

 

If that is the case, he could be what that program needs.

Not too much of a stretch... but I personally think that the eldest Howard is in a win-win situation at LCC. If Hilliard came back to Pikeville and the Panthers still continued to make early exits (meaning anything less than State Semi's) it would take a little luster off his legacy at PHS. As it stands now, as long as he continues to take LCC to the playoffs he will be considered widely as one of the state's elite coaches

I do agree with the poster who said that whoever takes over at Pikeville needs prior head coaching experience. This isn't your normal program in terms of expectations, and with Belfry's emergence on the other side of the county, the pressure will be on to produce a winning product and fast.

Belfry's recent string of wins against Pikeville has far less to do with Belfry "emerging" as it does with Pikeville being just far less talented than they were in the 80s and 90s.

 

Pikeville can change coaches every 3 years if they want, but records and playoff wins will probably average out to about the same. The pool of talent in Pike Co. (not just Pikeville) is pretty shallow nowadays & Pikeville doesn't have the luxuries afforded to them to lure student-athletes they've had in previous years. (And I am NOT talking about recruiting in any shape, form, or fashion)

I think I understand history as well as anyone...

 

"Emergence" is referring to Belfry's dominance over Pikeville and planting itself firmly as a state title contender. Until the last 7 years the Belfry/Pikeville rivalry had been as "neck and neck" as you can get, but now Belfry is clearly the elite program in Pike County.

Wow, here's one I thought of: wonder if Coach Yeagle would move to Pikeville to take over a team of the "use to be" biggest rivals in Class A. It use to be said that the state championship went thru Ft Mitchell or Pikeville.

That sounds as if Belfry has always been king of the mountain.

 

The Belfry v Pikeville series split in the early years...Pikeville had some pretty good teams in the 50s and 60s too....1955 Pikeville team was undefeated and "mythical" state champion.

 

Pikeville football has been around a while too.

Yeagle and his problems are the LAST thing Pikeville needs!
