January 8, 200818 yr Davey Concepcion was the premier shortstop in the 70s and played on 2 World Championship teams. He revolutionized playing on Astro-turf and if you compare his numbers to the shortstops that are in the Hall especially guys like Pee Wee Reese, Phil Rizzuto and Luis Aparicio who went in before him then IMO he has been overlooked for far to long. He was a better hitter then any of those 3 and also a much better hitter then Ozzie Smith who was a great fielder but was a weak stick. His little flip as he ran onto the field is what made him such a popular figure. Hopefully the Oldtimers Committee will correct what the Sportswriters can't seem to get right.

January 9, 200818 yr I loved the Goose. When he went to San Diego in '83 or '84, they used to hand out little duck cazoos at the Murph, which we called "Goose Calls." We'd blow 'em like crazy for Goose to come in in the 8th or 9th, and he'd come in, fan a couple, and we'd go home happy. Great pitcher, glad I got to see him play.

January 9, 200818 yr Thats great for Goose. But I think I share with all of you when I ask....Why isn't Rice in? I think he deserves it more than any of the people on the ballot right now.

January 9, 200818 yr Dawson should go in before Jim Rice IMO. He was far better defensively and had more speed on the basepaths then Rice. I also remember he usually tore up the Reds pitching. Rice had maybe 3 or 4 great years and a couple of good years and thats it. Dawson was far more consistent over a longer period of time and if Rice had spent as much time playing in Montreal and not Boston as Dawson did he would be getting very little mention as a Hall of Famer.
