January 3, 200818 yr Right. Players on the roster that were landed as a result of the title... Well obviously nobody knows how they will pan out but they have the talent to land a FF this year. I do not believe it was necessarily a result of the last title. Roy just brings them in and he moved to a brand name hip school to make matters worse. He has 3 kis coming in next year that are pretty highly ranked I believe. I think every 3 years you have to bring in 3-4 kids a year who can combine you the talent to go to the FF. Problem with Tubbs is he had some major break downs. He had the Morris class, then a few disasterous classes. It's not just one class as im sure someone like you knows. But the results of combining 2-3 within 4 years. Tubb could just not consistently bring it in.

His assistants targeted 10 when it should have been 40, and as a result you get the guys at 9-13. My point is the top 8 that you build around are talented. Some were injured. Some were in a slump. Some didn't take to the new system well. At the end of the day it's still a roster that has plenty of talent...

I think you would agree UK's former playing still which yes might still be similar was not appealing to offense studs. As for the PF spot im puzzled to why we can't one. Looking back at UK the last 4 or so years is a disaster that you could point to many fingers at. Its best to move on.

I'm convinced the staff didn't do the work needed to explore what might happen if they didn't get their top targets. They spent all of their time on a small number of kids, and when they missed out, they were too far behind to get quality. That was the game 10 years ago, but it changed and they didn't adapt. That was the core of the problem...

That was the core of the problem... I completely agree with you. I just think it got to the point where there top targets or pretty much 5 star players were not within reach. Then they skipped the 4 stars and went straight down to the 3's.

Patterson is a beast, but there isnt a lot around him.

When Tubby had success, he had it with the "right parts" regardless of stars. You can't simply add up the recruiting analysts stars and come up with the quality of a team. Is there individual talent? Maybe. Not enough but it still comes down to players fitting systems, health, and luck.

Maybe. Not enough but it still comes down to players fitting systems, health, and luck. I am not saying you need all 5 stars but you need a few and a few 4 stars... UK in recent years was a 3 star hotel with an occasional 4 star breakfast.
January 3, 200818 yr Explanations... A few things... Injuries is the biggest issue and has hurt continuity in games and more importantly practices. Crawford missed the majority of the summer due to knee surgery. Jasper and Meeks. Without Jasper and Meeks for the most part of the season, they are trying to replace 55% of their scoring, 66% of their rebounding, and 54% of their assists. That is asking a lot of from marginal players who have very little if any experience whatsoever. Granted Patterson for Morris at this stage is close to a draw b/c PP makes up for rebounding that Morris was not as good as he could have been. Rebounding and ball control have been the biggest issues...trying to replace what was lost with very inexperienced players is going to take a lot of time. It is a hodge-podge collection of talent. No true one aside from Jasper...no consistent shooter...undersized wing with talent. No low-post presence aside from Patterson. New system defensively which is practically at the other end of the spectrum...ball-line to overplay man. They only had a little over 3 weeks to get ready before their first game minus their starting pint guard and best defender. Horrific leadership from senior class. BCG sticking to his principles of defense, rather than attempt zone... Let me switch it up a bit. FSU despite their 36 suspended players, despite practically all skilled players playing...started 21 of 22 kids that were 3 star players or higher. Matter of fact 14 of the 22 were 4 and 5 star players. Yet, they were undermanned....and the media downplayed it. They had talent out the wazoo to fill those positions...ratings wise their talent was far superior to that of what UK rolled out there...
January 3, 200818 yr Author Is there individual talent? Maybe. The star system is almost always about individual talent. That's the point. The raw talent is there. Was it not developed right by Tubby? Was it poor work from his staff? Was it Billy G forcing his core system early in his tenure? I'm not concerned with many sides of this debate. UK has talent on the roster. Obviously not the talent that is expected at UK, and I get that defense. In the end the results are really bad right now. Part of it is two really good players in Meeks and Jasper being hurt. I think a combination of the two over the next 2 1/2 years could equal an Acie Law/Josh Carter like duo for BCG...
