Crawford was an excellent high school player I was always hoping that he would step up and play like bogans did, but that never panned out.

 

So was I.

First of all, the number of stars a player has does not make him a sure fire college star. Players just don't work out. Based on what Ive seen of Hopson and what Ive seen on the internet of Greg Monroe, they are as lazy as they come.

 

Now, anyone can look at UK's team and realize UK is undermanned with quality players inside, that is obvious.

 

The biggest problem with UK though is a lack of winners on the roster. Crawford and Bradley are not "winners." Winners do whatever it takes and those guys don't do that. Gillispie is trying his best to get them to do what it takes. Meeks, Jasper, and Patterson IMO are winners. So is Darius Miller. And they have talent. Once a roster is full of those types of players things will be great.

I can't fo the life of me put my finger on what's wrong with this team. I guess that it's just a stems from the coaching change and injuries.

 

I hope that Gillispie is the right guy for the job.

 

I just hope that he realizes that re-building doesn't have to be done. UK has won 20 plus games and made the NCAA for a while now. The "turnaround" as he is use to, is not needed.

 

The "want to" factor at SR level is the biggest problem IMO. I will take guys who play with heart and play for that name on front of the jersey before I will take a Crawford or Bradley!!! Can't wait until they are gone.

This is not a talented team by UK standards. If you can't see that then you are simply unable to evaluate talent. Please show me a talented post player outside of Patterson.

Zona has 3 5 star, 2 4 star and the rest are 3's...

I think the talant is there, but they just dont have "the right five" in there at the same time. Mondays game what the best combo with Patterson, Crawford, Bradley, Meeks and jasper in the line up. I dont think the Philosophy should be the 5 players who practice hardest get to start but it should earn them some playing time when the starters need a rest. Put the 5 best out there and let them set the tempo.

I think UK does have a lack of talent, at least less than they should have but enough to beat Gardner-Webb, San Diego, UAB, and Houston.

So.. over twice the number on UK's squad. THIS is the problem people had with recruiting.

 

Now my standard disclaimer for the Tubby loyalists/BCG haters. This roster SHOULD beat GW and USD. However, a totally new system, combined with injuries to key players and a lack of leadership/upperclassmen has hurt UK to this point. With the injuries mostly healed, and the system starting to sink in, hopefully UK will continue on the path they started on vs. FIU.

I think Duke has somethin like atleast 7 or so McDonalds All Americans on the present team.. Anyway you slice it UK's talent level IS down and you can't deny it. These teams are nothing like UK's teams in the 90's.

Agree'd, but I will say that the poor output is a partial result of injuries, the players learning a new system and even some questionable coaching decisions.

 

Also, are they good enough to compete for a National Championship or even an SEC championship like everybody expects? No. Should people give BCG some time? Yes.

Yes... Don't get me wrong though.. they certainly have enough talent to beat a Gardner-Webb, San Diego type teams.. They are having alot of bad luck as well(injuries, transfer,etc).
