Mustang....you bring up an interesting point.......What are the expectations........Having seen this program over the last 50 years myself go from winning 2 games a year.....then go to the TC era where slow down produced wins.......then the BS era where uptempo and running produced the first district title and a lot of winning seasons.....to the WS era that produced regional contenders and a trip to Rupp....to now...........I mean are the Mustang faithful looking at this as an abberation season because lets face it not to sound arrogant but................looking at the development in this program Deming and Augusta would be teams that are expected to be beaten soundly

As a leader, you take your losses the same way you take your wins with respect towards the opponent. This act doesn't teach kids the right thing in my opinion.

Sounds like some of the BB posters see the All-A tourney as this year's brass ring.

 

And maybe rightfully so. Even with an obvious dearth of varsity experience, I guess it's expected that a BB team should be able to get by a Deming squad led by a pair of 9th graders.

 

Congrats to Deming on the win. It does appear from this tourney that there's a lot of parity among the small 10th region schools this year.

Our expectations of this team are to show up every day at practice and do our best to improve on a daily and weekly basis.

This group has probably somewhat been victimized by the success of their predecessors in that they have no varsity experience. That being said, they still have a lot of basketball experience and are expected to perform in a professional manner, taking care of the basketball, seeking high percentage shots, limiting their mistakes, playing hard nosed solid defense, and representing Bishop Brossart High School to the best of their abilities.

 

While success has followed us everywhere pretty much since the early 90's, this is strictly a re-building year. We will do our best on a game to game basis and play them one at a time, strive to improve and let the chips fall where they may.

Next year Brossart will return four veteran, grizzled, seasoned, varsity players and I would expect that at that time we will once again meet everyones expectations and get back to conducting business as usual. In the meantime we will do the best we can with what we have to do it with and if that includes a loss or two to schools that we have perennially dominated, so be it, and congratulations to them!

I have seen coaches get their tail ends kick in by 40 or even sometimes 50 points and still walk through the line and shake every kids hand and coaches hand. I just think that is something you do despite how the outcome is, how the game is decided, I don't care who the leader is. When you can shake hands being on the winning side of things, you should be able to do the same on the losing end. I am not saying that this hasn't happen to others at their respective schools, I am just stating from a spectators viewpoint.

So this moment is the defining moment in this game "from your spectators viewpoint"? All I'm saying here is did it really matter whether if there was any hand shakes. You guys are taking away from the game. Have at it if you want. Brossart will move on, I'll assure you that.

Noticed the same thing. He basically sprinted to the locker room and didn't shake all of the SP players' hands. (And there was no celebrating going on on the floor either).

I was at the game and I watched Coach Code due to the fact that haters always get on BGP and say this crap, and he absolutley shook hands with Deming's coach... He got out of there as soon as possible, but he definitely shook hands... Unbelievable what people will do to ruin a guy's reputation...

 

Oh ya, and the refs gave a late X-Mas present to Deming at the end of the game...

Just want to get this out there, and I'm an impartial attendee to the game........Coach Code indeed DID shake hands w/the Coach, missed the players, as he was obviously upset about the way the outcome played out. Let us not forget that coaches are REAL PEOPLE too, and invest every ounce of their energy into helping their team become successful. Regardless of what transpired throughout the game, his team still had an opportunity to win, and it was taken away by a nonsense call at the end. He has the right to have emotions, and I'm certain meant no ill will to the opposing team. By the way, from what I've seen throughout this tourney, the overall officiating has been "less than consistant", and the guys in stripes (for the most part) need to understand that they are part of the game, not stars of the game, and simply do their job. No knock on Bracken, however as they are hosting a fine tournament, and Coach Fite and the Polar Bear faithful should be commended:thumb:

Can't we alll just get along....BB has been and is a fine program, this was a game that was hard fought and at the end things went Deming's way, It'll certainly give the younger players some confidence when going into the ALL A Tournament soon, and I hope it'll continue for my alma mater, but I have nothing but good intentions for all the schools competing in the All A. But Brossart also took 4 steps(should have been called a walk, and wasnt)to score the basket to put them ahead, while Deming also got a foul called on them that wasnt. Works both ways, and I hate to hear that this game was won by a bad call. Both teams played hard but Deming was the better team.

 

As for the shaking hands part. I feel every coach needs to shake hands with all PLAYERS and COACHES.

What a difference a week or so makes?? Just a few days ago it seems I was reading on here how the 10th region All "A" was a 3 horse race and Brossart, even as a five time defending champion, had no business even being in the discussion. A week ago they couldn't come within 15-20 points of any of the contenders, and now they should be "expected..........to get by a Deming squad led by a pair of 9th graders"? :confused:

 

Sometimes its best to be realistic Papa? I doubt anyone involved with the Brossart program is setting their sights any lower than being a competitive basketball program with whoever they suit up against, but reality with this team is they haven't yet shown they are ready to contend for the 10th region title this year (who other than Mason is?). I think all the KY small schools start the year with a trip to Richmond as "a" goal, and many probably their only goal. The first "realistic" goal for this team would appear to be earning a return trip to Richmond to defend their title; but after that they will undoubtably set their sights on winning the district and returning to the Fieldhouse--opps Montgomery County.

 

Just because it says "Brossart" , or any other name on your jersey doesn't guarantee you victories over the St. Pats, Augusta's and Deming's of the world. You have to earn those victories and this week they fell short by a point or two in doing that. And by the way, those mere "9th graders" you speak of are pretty darn good players, (either of which has more varsity playing experience than Brossart's entire squad combined) who word has it were heavily courted by a perennial 10th region power??

 

I'm a little surprised at you taking a bit of a shot at the Mustangs, as you seem knowledgeable enough to realize things like rebuilding years (I'd hate to hear what you're saying about say a Pendleton County this year)?? Again congratulations to all the winners at the Bracken tourney!! Guessing the Mustangs will still show up this afternoon, play their game vs. Dayton; and hopefully someone can capture the coach's handshake on camera for several of you on here!!!!

I think that I spelled that out pretty clearly in my first post on this thread.

 

A) Our guard traveled on our last field-goal of the game.

 

B) The foul of Curtis should have been an intentional foul.

 

Many, many factors go into the winning or losing of a ballgame. We certainly had our chances and failed to finish way too many close-in shots.

 

The fact that the final foul call of the game was so bogus draws everyones attention to it and not the other stuff. At very least we should have secured the rebound after Luke King missed the second free-throw and the game should have gone OT - we didn't and we got beat!
