December 27, 200718 yr After spending a lot of time watching and hearing about both guys over the last 7 or so years, I think it's a fun debate to have out there. It's the big time pro prospect compared to the guy who's end level is graduation and maybe the chance to hold a NFL clipboard. Mauk can escape a NCAA level DL or LB while it's likely he takes a lot more sacks at the next level. Woodson isn't going to escape much, but he has a big arm and quick release that translates to the NEXT level. Who guy do you want running your NCAA team? It's a great thing to have the big time prospect, but at this level is it always best???
December 27, 200718 yr Apples to oranges... Depends on your system. If you want more of a pro style set and a drop back passer you will likely lean Woodson's way. If you want a little spread attack where the QB runs the football and the pocket is always moving, then Mauk is your guy. The kid at Central Michigan, LeFeouver (sp?) was fantastic tonight and single-handedly about tokk the Boilermakers down. If your looking towards the NFL as a future then someone of Woodson's stature, size and arm stength is a luxury. Much depends on the system. Mauk has excelled in Kelly's system and Woodson has had a nice career in UK's system...I still think Woodson is a little overrated by many.
December 27, 200718 yr Author It's a 100% apples to oranges debate. Who did Lefevour learn under? Mauk is slightly bigger than me, and he was off the charts this year. Woodson is a physical freak and he will need a fantastic bowl game and combine to over value his stock...
December 27, 200718 yr I wouldn't say Woodson is a physical freak. He has size, he has a big time arm, though his mechanics could use some tweaking, his transformation over the last 16 months has been incredible. However, he is not athletic to me. He is not that mobile, he doesn't have great speed...he needs other things around him for him to excel...protection and adequate receivers...and most importantly an effective run game. His numbers have slid since the Florida game because essentially their run game has declined. Losing Little hurt him as well...UK could make up for Raffy's running but Little is by far the best receiving back on the roster. Simply hitting your release valve, gets you another completion and yards with a simple toss. I think he has been overvalued draft wise, all year. I still think he has a lot to learn about the position of QB...when to throw and not to throw...taking sacks, ball security...and so forth. UC lists Mauk at 6-1...no way.
December 27, 200718 yr I'm not a big "projection" or whatever guy but in college I take Mauk hands down. I also take him in the late rounds as a pro.
December 27, 200718 yr I love the instincts of Mauk, he get's everything he can out of his body, and is a leader. On the college level Mauk brings more to the table.
December 27, 200718 yr I was thinking about this last night when someone posted about the top QB's headed into the Draft. My first thought was where is Mauk? I like this kid alot and think he could make an NFL roster. Andre Woodson on the other can and will be a starter in the NFL.

Not heard many UK fans willing to admit that one. I don't even bring it up with most. I think he has quite a bit of potential, but I don't think he is as close to ready as many claim.

December 27, 200718 yr Mauk has absolutley no chance of playing in the NFL..He is way to short with a weak arm.. He is totally a system qb if there ever was one...I think he has done a great job this year for UC but I wouldn't plan on seeing him on Sundays...Woodson has alot more upside in my opinion..Bigger with a cannon for an arm....

I think he has quite a bit of potential, but I don't think he is as close to ready as many claim. I have to agree with you on this. With good coaching, which he will most likely get in the NFL, Woodson IMO will be a very good QB at the next level. He is a prototype pocket passer.
December 27, 200718 yr Author Woodson>Mauk As a pro prospect, I agree. At the NCAA level, I disagree...
December 27, 200718 yr I believe he'll petition for another year of eligibility. They already have. It took some cooperation from Wake Forest to file the petition but they did it. They won't know the NCAA's decision until late January.
