Slight edge to Woodson. Maybe even more than slight. Almost 70 yards more per game, a higher completion percentage, and more TDs. More picks but that's against better, quicker defenses. We already knew Mauk was a better runner but even there he only got 28 yards per game.

What were there UK and UC's records in those games.

 

I am a UK fan, but I believe that Woodson is overrated as a pro QB. The more I watch him the more I think his lack of quick decision making will hurt him at the next level. If we were playing 7 on 7 games, I would take Woodson in a heartbeat, but I think he will struggle to ever make it in the pros.

I also think that injuries hurt UK and Woodson. I haven't been fortunate enough to watch Mauke play enough to say who I would take.

Good points. Also consider, Woodson was forced to throw that much in several games because they were either attempting to come back, had no running game, or both.

I personally take Mauk for my college system because I would run the spread in college.

 

I don't think there is an NFL GM in the league that has Mauk ahead of Woodson as a pro prospect. Mauk's size compared to Woodson, plus Mauk's history of injury play a big role in this.

As the Bearcats were warming up on the field to face Southern Miss in the Papajohns.com Bowl, quarterback Ben Mauk suddenly bolted for the locker room. Had to be the bum shoulder acting up on a chilly day right? Our best guess in the broadcast booth was that he was probably getting injected with a pain-killer just to be able to take the field.

 

Well, when asked about his mad dash to the locker room in a post-game news conference, Ben said he was taking a bathroom break.

 

Yea, right.

 

His MVP performance against the Golden Eagles would have been impressive under any circumstances, but after talking to Ben and his teammates after the game, I'm convinced that it ranks as one of the greatest efforts in UC football history.

 

Tight end Connor Barwin, who made 7 catches and recovered an onside kick in the 4th quarter, said that two or three days before the game he had serious doubts that Mauk would even play - his passes didn't have much zip, and things appeared to be getting worse not better.

 

Head coach Brian Kelly never doubted that Mauk would take the field, but did offer to scale back the playbook to lessen the demands on Ben's surgically-repaired wing.

 

Ben not only nixed the offer. He finished with career-highs in attempts (52) and completions (30), and tied his career-high with 4 TD passes.

 

If all of this sounds a bit too dramatic, consider this - Ben told me after the game that he will have arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder right after Christmas.

 

Bionic Ben finished the season with 31 touchdown passes and only 10 interceptions. The big question now is whether it will be his only season as a Bearcat.

Let's hear what teams on each schedule were legit competition and compare those numbers. For UC I would say Oregon St, Rutgers, USF, UConn and WVU. For UK it would be Arkansas, LSU, Florida, Miss St., UGA and UT...

Woodson went for 30-44, 275 and 4 TD's, while Mauk countered with 26-45, 3TD's and 1 pick while amassing 324 yards.

That was a big part of my point from post #1. At the NCAA level it's a toss up most of the time...

When it comes to a gametime (no pun) COLLEGE decision...it is Mauk hands down...as far as pro goes, we'll find out.
