December 24, 200718 yr It's only a secondary violation, right 98???Just be thankful, he didn't buy a box of Popcorn, with extra butter and a soda for each of them. Then, OSU would be looking at some serious violations..... Not sure how any program and Compliance Department, can be aware of all the NCAA regulations. Tressel is an outstanding coach and seems like, even a better person.
December 24, 200718 yr If they've declared their intent to go pro and actually have signed with an agent, are we talking student-athletes anymore? This seems pretty minor and innocent.
December 24, 200718 yr Tress is sitting on a timebomb, IMO. What do you know, or is this just speculation on your part? Tressel had some serious issues (Clarett the most serious) Right now it seems that things are pretty smooth.
December 25, 200718 yr I got a joke for YA'LL.... You know what a Buckeye is? A Hillbilly that didn't have gas money to get all the way to Michigan.
December 25, 200718 yr A Hillbilly that didn't have gas money to get all the way to Michigan.I thought that was a Hoosier.
December 25, 200718 yr This was just a minor infraction and Tressel did show a lot of class in coming forth and saying something about this. OSU bashers are everywhere, but there are ALOT on here. Since the Clarett days he has ran a clean classy program.

December 26, 200718 yr Minus that little Troy Smith incident of course... And what the ......did he do that was class-less? A very high profile player made a mistake and was punished for it. As a matter of fact the punishment that was dealt by Tressel was more severe than what was administered by the NCAA. Jim Tressel is a good man. Period, a solid football coach and as classy of a person as you may ever want to meet. I would be very proud to have him coach my son. I have not met the man personally, but have had phone conversations with him when I was coaching H.S. football.

December 26, 200718 yr As a UK fan, I have a difficult time saying anything about violations concidering our history. Let the cards fall where they may with the NCAA. This seems pretty minor.

Should Tressel had bought them a large coke with the popcorn OSU may have recieved the death penalty. As for your comments about Tressel I 100% agree, Jim Tressel is all class and an outstanding football coach (imo that fact is what some cannot stand;)), his record everywhere that he has been speaks for itself.

A kid from our hometown is a current player at OSU and his parents speak very highly of Jim Tressel. His father has said "you just cannot believe how classy and caring this man is" and how he cares for his kids and their future in all areas as well as football.
December 26, 200718 yr I am NOT an OSU fan but I see nothing wrong with this. Give me a break. Maybe he is trying to develop a relationship with future donors like was reported or maybe he wants the 2 players to come back to his staff as assistants in the future? Either way, I have to feel this is a VERY minor infraction and the people who would attack Tressel's "class program" over this are way off base and have some other ax to grind. I do understand that the former players were still on scholarship but if all is as it appears on the surface then OSU fans should have nothing to worry about.
