December 16, 200718 yr I'd be willing to say we're going to see a LOT more 1-3-1 in the immediate future....
December 16, 200718 yr Wireman - while we don't always agree on things, we are in 100% agreement on this philosphy. Letting him run free without someone stepping out or putting a forearm on him is inexcusable. Like I said - Defense 101. You come across the middle, you catch a forearm shiver in the chest. They also forgot fundamental rule #2 - when the shot goes up, you get your butt in your man's knees and box him out. :thumb:
December 16, 200718 yr Not much complaining on this thread, eh? A few things to address. People complaining about attackng the 1-3-1. There is a plan, but then again there is execution. You go 2 guards one in high post and 2 in the short corner...essentially a 2-1-2 look. You have to attack once you allude first trap and when ball goes to short corner you have to dive to basket. The problem which is not correctable with the personnel is that they don't have enough all handlers. Harris is simply auto-turnover and he threw it away left and right versus 1-3-1. I vividly remember Patterson catching it in the short corner and throws it to a spot in paint where Stevenson should have been diving and he just stood there. They don't have enough ballhandling. That is the issue versus the 1-3-1. If you recall they struggled against Stony Brook's 1-3-1. It is a major weakness. They have only 2 ballhandlers at this point. It has been a problem all year, not sure why people are so surprised. Guarding Vaden. He was hitting shots from 25 feet out. His last one was just stupid. He catches it facing away from basket, not even facing basket, and goes up practically sideways and still nails shot. If anything, try and deny him the ball. Be physical... Frustrating but we don't have the personnel. BCG may be a little stubborn with his philosophy defensively, but I think he really fears getting mangled on the boards out of a zone. On UK boards they are moaning about the practices before the games...thinking fatigue...I don't see that either. I just see a flawed team without possibly its best player and best ball handler. Heading to 9-1 Houston and likely another loss.

Eventually, you will have an open shot. UK on the other hand, lobs big crazy looking passes right into the teeth of the defense... Worst pass in basketball - the lob from the baseline corner to the high, opposite side of the court (Perry Stevenson, please read this last sentence:thumb:)
December 16, 200718 yr But Kentucky did play well, I mean they might of lost, but they didn't exactly stink up the place.
December 16, 200718 yr They go 2 guard against the 1-3-1, but are not good enough at attacking it from the wings. I fail to see why people complain about it. This team can not execute a simple post feed. Patterson doesn't get the ball nearly enough. There is some talent, but it is flawed. If they had Jasper and Meeks, this would be a different team. Essentially they are without their best player and best playmaker. Heck Jasper could have guarded Vaden, quick and long enough. Just ugly basketball.
December 16, 200718 yr ^ So thats what we have to look forward to at UK now. My how times have changed.
December 16, 200718 yr ^ So thats what we have to look forward to at UK now. My how times have changed. What we are seeing right now with a depleted roster is a culture change. As Mike DeCoursey said, we have essentially witnessed 10 years of a mismanaged program, with particular regard to recruiting.
December 16, 200718 yr We are hurting for guards more so than a big man at this point IMO. This team is screaming for a point guard. We have a good big man right now but have no clue how to continuously get him the ball. We can't break people down off the dribble, can't feed the post, can't handle presure defense....that is all guards. The loss of Meeks and Jasper have been devastating at this point.
December 16, 200718 yr Who is the last true PG at UK? Cliff Hawkins? Wayne Turner? It's hard for me to consider Rondo a true PG, because he never really seemed like the leader out on the floor.
December 16, 200718 yr I said UK by 3..I was right on the scoring, just picked the wrong team. Vaden gave it to UK. Patterson needs some help, bad. I feel sorry for the poor guy. UK has Houston coming up next who is 9-1..Houston has a good scorer in Rob McKiver who is averaging over 20 points a game.
