Highlands was the best TEAM I saw this year hands down! They play together and as a unit. Talk about peaking at the end of the year! I would have put them up against anyone at the end. Those seniors were determined to destroy anyone that tried to get in there way of a State Championship and that is exactly what they did. Congrats bluebirds!

Highlands, (IMO), is the #1 football team in Ky. this year. X and T are good, but not as good as Highlands.

^ You don't know that....neither do I know the latter. I know that both are good, 'Nuff Said......

Are we forgetting possibly the biggest debate? Highlands won their 17th state title, while Trinity won their 18th - correct me if I'm wrong. Who has the best program in KY history - Highlands or Trinity?

St X had a faster defense and was quicker to the ball than Highlands. Furthermore, St. X also had a more explosive running game with a fully healthy Deuce Finch as compared to the Highlands team. I could be wrong, but if Trinity faced a healthy Deuce like he was in the early and mid part of the year, then we would likely be saying that St X was the best.... The fact that St. X lost to Trinity puts T at the top, but St. X is probably a hair better than Highlands.

2 St. X

3 Highlands

4 Lex Cath

5 Bowling Green or Manual or Henry Clay (and would like to take Henry Clay off this list since they will not play Lexington Catholic)

No disrespect to the great football teams throughout the bluegrass. But why can't everyone just admit that the Highlands Bluebirds was the best high school football in the state this year?

I will tell you why I believe Highlands is the BEST. Trinity if you go by male enrollment is playing in the class where they belong. If their were larger schools in the state and Trinity was playing against them , then you might have an argument. But Trinity should win 6A because they are playing with school of equal size. Highlands on the other hand , as everyone knows, is playing up 2 classes. They are playing against schools with twice the male enrollment. Hence that many more athletes to choose from. Larger teams two platoon. Do you see what I'm getting at here?

Personally, I think Highlands could compete with Trinity THIS year and regardless of the outcome at state, I think St X was Kys overall best team. I don't blame Highlands for playing up. Look at the 3a and 4a teams in NKy. Wouldn't you rather play Dixie & Cov Cath than the teams in these categories? The Highlands faithful would hate to see that as well, I'm sure. By the way, there are several teams in Ky playing up in class. It's not that uncommon and is based on demographics and availability. The KHSAA doesn't automatically allow every team who request to move up do so.

I have a lot of respect fo Highlands. Yet St. X's only loss is an OT loss to Trinity. St. X played a very tough schedule. I've got to go with:

 

1. Trinity

2. St. X

3. Highlands

I know they could compete this year. I think it is more impressive that they can compete against schools with twice the male enrollment. That is one big reason I give Highlands the nod as the best in the state this year.

 

Schools that can two platoon certainly have an advantage. Smaller schools have a tuff time doing that. The X's and T's can do this due to enrollment. That can be a big factor in a game and I think when you take a smaller school like Highlands and they can still compete with , what I like to call fresh leg syndrom, that's impressive.

(sure, they were before many of us were even born, but you KNOW other teams would brag about it if they could)
