I think your going to be VERY alone in your opinion.

Trinity

St. X

Highlands

We (CovCath) came pretty close to beating X. Highlands beat us twice. from what i saw Highlands would dominate X's Defense. I don't know too much about T but I'm pretty sure they lost to X in the regular season, didn't they?

If you will check out post #151 at the top of this page, you would have found your answer.

When was the last time HHS played T or X and what was the outcome?

T in I think 2000 and the Birds won by a couple of tds. To be fair to Trinity, it was Beatty's first year as head coach, the players were still learning his system and it was the first game of the year. Birds went up big. Trinity made a nice comeback in the second half but to be likewise fair to the Birds, Highlands has started doing some subbing (not full scale however). Once Trinity got within one td in the 4th quarter, Mueller put his starting O back in the game and we scored with a couple of minutes left to make it a two td win.

Played X last year at Paul Brown Stadium the week after we played Elder. We were pretty banged up (several starters did not practice at all the week of the X game and at least two starters didn't play at all and a couple that did were really banged up). We were winning by a point at half. X came out the second half and played pound it football and to the extent we weren't already worn down at half, we wore down in the second half. Anderson and Finch ran the ball really well in the second half. For the most part of the second half it was a one td game. X would go up by two tds and we'd answer. Game ended with X having the ball after we threw a desperation pass on X's side of the field. The year before that X flat out laid the wood to us. Then again, we'd played Colerain the week before and were again physically beat up.

Playing top notch big schools like X and T is always going to be a challenge for us due to depth issues. Trying to do it after playing Elder and Colerain the week before makes it even tougher. Our best chance of beating X or T is in the first game as we generally have more returning starters than they do which helps experience wise plus we aren't beat up from the week before.

And X and T fans please don't take this as being a disparaging post. I have nothing but the utmost respect for your programs, your coaches and the committment of the kids. I'm just pointing out what should be the obvious: when you have 1200 boys to choose from vs 400, it does effect the outcome of the game. My older son started on the O line for Highlands last year. He played every offensive play and some special teams against Elder and then had to come back against X the next week in extreme heat on plastic grass and do it again. After the game, he was physically exhausted. I thought he was going to pass out getting on the bus. Later when I asked him about the X personnel he was assigned to block, he said the second teamer who rotated in a lot was almost as good as the first teamer. That's a great testament not only to X's depth but the X coaching staff. We unfortunately don't have that kind of depth.
