Thanks for the info. Can you give me an idea or comparision to something I might know regarding Ohio's DII level ? Are they comparable at all to the GCL ?

 

Have you played them before ? Does HHS schedule any of the Cincy schools ?

This is our first time playing Trotwood. HHS usually schedules one or two of the big Ohio schools each year. They've played Moeller, Elder, St. X, Oak Hills, Walnut Hills and Colerain, to name a few.

IMO they are a distant 3rd in the state especially after watching the replay of their game. They have a very good team but they could not beat X or T.

Neither would I. I think it always works out that way on the years when we wish that we could have played one of the big powerhouses of Louisville, we end up with them the year before or the year after and get spanked. Not a good snapshot of what our program is really about.

This Trinity fan doesn't think that's what HHS' program is all about. You have respect in Louisville.

I think it was Beatty's first game at Trinity. HHS got up 35-0. Trinity came back and cut it to 35-29. Highlands then scored a touchdown late in the fourth to make it 42-29. Feel free to correct.

 

You are correct CR. I was there. It was Coach Beatty's first game as head ROCK. HHS clearly outplayed us that day.

 

I have the utmost respect for Highlands. Their program is absolutely tremendous. The number of athletes they produce is amazing. What I would truly love to see is a home and away series with Trinity and X every single year, not just every once in a while.

 

No disrespect to what Boyle County did a few years back. They had a awesome run. But all we heard is how they were better than T, X and HHS. I wish we could have played them then and now. You can't just play teams when you're up. Play us every year.

VEry impressive. Then I concurr with other posters on here - to settle the debate -by scheduling HHS -X -T. I very well remember the game up at your place. I think it would be fun to do it again. That would help put things into perspective. I just hate the speculation - posturing - etc. - don't you ???

Dont forget Highlands handled Beechwood in the opening scrimmage. I know that was many moons ago but just thought I would throw that in there. Defeating the 3A and 4A champ, Bowling Green, Trotwood Madison, Beedchwood, would probably give them the nod as being the best this season.

 

I also believe that Highlands should be given a little more credit toward the number one spot. However that is not a very valid point considering that Boone handled Beechwood in their second week scrimmage as well. After seeing what T did to Boone, that's not a good point to make, seeing that Highlands and Boone were just as successful against the 1A State Champs.

Congrats Birds! No one else in the state can say that!

 

I will predict you will post this same message same time next year... the difference is that it will be 30 consecutive wins for the BIRDS and holder of the nation's longest winning streak.

 

The coaches will simply reload and shoot! Solid talent returning to fill in the gaps left behind by the senior squad.

I hate trying to compare games, and guessing the 'what-ifs', but I am going to do it anyway since Lexington Catholic played both St. X and Highlands. So here comes my ‘two-cents’.

 

Lex Cath played St. X in the 3rd game of the season, and it was evident that Lex Cath was not ready for 'prime time'. St. X was clearly the superior team, they had a great game plan and they were unbelievably fast to the ball on defense. Furthermore, with a healthy Deuce Finch, well, let's just say we know what Mr. Finch did to LC – he gave St. X explosive scoring potential.

 

Lex Cath played Highlands in week eight, so in theory, both teams should have progressed and gotten better by this point of the season. Truth is, Lex Cath had actually regressed due in part to the injury to Shane Israel and a passing game that was still getting its feet wet. This is what I noticed about Highlands though; similar to St. X, Highlands was also fast to the ball and disciplined on both sides of the line. The Birds are coached to not make the big mistake and it showed. However, they did not seem to have the offensive explosiveness that St. X had, and it was not until the middle of the third quarter that Coach Mueller found a weakness in the Lex Cath defense. As Coach Mueller is so good at doing, he continued to exploit that weakness to score three unanswered touchdowns. Truth is, my feeling after that game was with a fully healthy LC team, it certainly would have been a closer final score, and it was also the type of game that you would like to play over at the end of the season, because you just might think that you could win that one.

 

On the other hand, after the St. X game, I still think that if they played five games between each other, St. X would win all five of them, at least this year that would be the case.

 

My bottom line – I think that St. X out matches Highlands in a head to head game, and this would put Trinity at the top spot, St. X, then Highlands. Heck, here in Lexington, some people still argue who is the best in this town, but until Lexington publics schedule Lexington privates we just jabber about it….. but that is a whole different story!

 

Great season for Highlands – the only undefeated team in Kentucky – but unless you play head to head, the rest is just fun conjecture.
