Someone, I couldn't find the post to quote, mentioned that God made it pretty simple - this is simply just not true - Paul says that we CANNOT know the full truth b/c we only see through a glass dimly so to say that the Bible says it, I believe, and that settles it, goes squarley against Paul's teachings

You have taken this scripture totally out of context and used it to try to create an argument (a very weak one, I might add) for your point. I will refrain from thread jacking to give an exegesis. By the way, if God's Word, (the Bible) says it . . . we don't have to fully understand it, if God said it, then that is the way it is and that IS the final authority. PERIOD.

As long as your right?? Your right & everyone that doesn't do what you do or think the way you think is wrong.

If it was about LBBC being right, I would agree with you.

But it is not. It is about the Bible being right. Homosexual behavior along with a whole host of other sexual immoral sins are considered wrong by the Bible. The Bible is clear on that issue. Many Scriptures on here have been posted to show that.

So, it is NOT about me being right and everyone that doesn't do it is wrong. Has ZERO to do with me.

This is the Bible. THis is the Bible's view and the view I will take. If that is not an acceptable stance, people can take that up with the guy who had the the book written when every knee will bow and every tongue confesses.

This is NOT my philosophy of life. It is Christ's and the one I choose to follow and my commission to tell others about.

AMEN!:thumb:

Why can't some of you see what Ladies is saying. Its our job to warn others of their sin.... if they choose to keep on sinning we will be blessed for at least warning them even if they choose to keep with their sinful lives.

He is only stateing Bible facts, and Bible truths.

The rich man in hell saw first hand when you reject the bible teachings, he found out too late when he had people to guide him and the writings of the prophets.

I saw a letter in Dear Abby or Ann landers, where a 15 year old girl was feeling she might be bisexual. "What should I tell my parents, they might not accept me", the response was..."your parents might be discouraged, but they will still love you." (this should be true)

Why would the girl feel that parents might not accept her? And why did the writer tell her that the parents might be discouraged at first?

Because its not natural for these feelings and the parents want Grandchildren someday, if possible from their bloodline.

There is not statement anywhere that says it is our job to warn others of their sin. We might need to reprove a brother or sister in christ, but it does not say anywhere to search out sinners and point out their sinners. What we do with those that don't know Jesus is to teach them about the Love of God, not condemn their lifestyle - Jesus didn't do that "neither do I condemn you . . . "

As to the Bible stating it and that settles it, if this were true we wouldn't need any theology degrees or classes b/c we could simply read - and the fact is YOU read something in the Bible and LBBC reads something in the Bible and Superfan reads something and I read something and we all come away with differing notions of what it meant and what it said, but somehow you KNOW that your reading of it is the CORRECT and TRUE reading of it.

Now I will readily admit that I have had no professional religious training but a lot of what I "know" and espouse on here comes from discussions with my pastor and my father-in-law. My father-in-law, btw, is a Baptist Preacher in WACO, TX (no Davidian jokes please;)) - he has a degree from Southern Seminary in Louisville (PhD), was the Chair of the Homeletics (preaching) department at Southern seminary, has written several books on preaching and did a dissertation on "Thomas Merton on Mysticism". I don't want to speak for him specifically, but he WAY disagrees with the conclusions that many of the conservative Christians on here reach. How can that be - I ASK LOUDLY, that someone with all of that training can be so wrong? I also ask AGAIN LOUDLY how Paul was so wrong in believing that Jesus would come again in his lifetime. If he was wrong about that how could he not be wrong about other things?

With that logic, how much can we trust of Paul? And since we will never know which interpretation is the EXACT, TRUE meaning, does that mean that we should not even try to ever share our interpretation with anyone else because it could be wrong?

I don't understand your perspective. I agree that we should not condemn people, but I don't get it when you say

teach them about the Love of God, not condemn their lifestyle - Jesus didn't do that "neither do I condemn you . . . "
It doesn't make sense to tell someone who is living in sin that they do not need to repent. The Bible outlines rules to live by, and you can't ignore them because it is hard to say if one is exactly right.

I believe each person is entitled to their own beliefs, but I disagree when you imply that we should keep them to ourselves because we could be wrong. As a Christian, it is your duty to condemn sin, not ignore it.

I think acemona was referring to something like this.

say,

"hey, come to church sometime. or your invited to church. or something to that effect"

the person can then see for themselves.

Instead of saying,

"your going to hades if you dont repent and be baptized. or your living in sin so you need to ...."

Christianity is about love & trying to help in a good manner instead of pointing out sin & being negative.

I agree it is about love. My dad loves me but if I started doing drugs and living on the street. He would make me stop. Why is he being negative? I know it is a very, very stretched example but sometimes love involves telling someone they are wrong, without condemning them to hell.

I think you are drawing a stereotype when you accuse the Christians on this board who are against homosexuality, and portraying them as a bunch of people who think only they are right and everyone else is going to hell.

Can anyone explain why gay men talk gay. Did they choose to have that voice?

???

If you had a son & he ended up being homosexual. What would you do?

Would you do like your father (regarding drugs) & not allow him to be gay? just how would you go about that?

Christianity is not about ignoring sin. Christianity is not about doing whatever you want.

You and your dad have a relationship!!! That is a huge difference.

Again NOBODY has shown me where Jesus talked to us about Condemning sin. That is Jesus job, or the Holy Spirit.

REALLY - we are to condemn sin - where does JESUS tell me to do that?

Certainly point out that what he is doing is immoral. I wouldn't kick him out of the family or anything, which is what you keep claiming people are doing when they point out flaws in other, as you indicated in post 142.

“Stop judging by mere appearances, and make a right judgment” (John 7:24). Obviously Jesus didn't say that people can't point out what they believe is wrong in others.

Poor wording on my part. I guess what I meant is that you can't just allow sin to happen, and pretend it isn't there.

With that logic, how much can we trust of Paul? And since we will never know which interpretation is the EXACT, TRUE meaning, does that mean that we should not even try to ever share our interpretation with anyone else because it could be wrong?

You can say that this is how I read and what I believe, but I could be wrong and I respect that you came to a different conclusion - Not The Bible is the Truth and that settles it, because that is not the case. Obviously I have come to a different conclusion.

In reference to my logic with Paul, what we do with his writing is to understand that he was a human being struggling with his faith walk, that he was passionate and sometimes prone to exagerration and hyperbole and that he wrote from an apocolyptic perspective that is not necessarily true but was common to the writing of his day. Then we wrestle with what he says in light of what we know from three other sources - four if you count Q - to see where the truth lay.
