November 28, 200718 yr I been saying this for awhile now. Rupp Arena and the crowd seems more like a NBA type crowd. I know when I watch NBA games the crowd is usually pretty quiet, until a team goes on some sort of run, and Rupp arena is the same way.. I know any other time when I watch college games, you always here the home team crowd yelling or doing something throughout the whole game. At Rupp it is usually always dead, the only time it usually is up for the whole game is when a #1 team comes here. I know I expect Saturday to be crazy, until UNC puts it to us (if we play like we did tonight.)
November 28, 200718 yr I just really hope that this new arena that they are talking about, that they put luxury suites in there, and allow more students to be by the court...
November 28, 200718 yr Maybe the lower level should be filled with students that can last the entire game. Instead of the people that spend all of the money to support the program and essentially fund the non-revenue sports? Sure...sounds fair. All of those companies that buy spots on the Big Blue Sports Network, they don't deserve good seats do they?
November 28, 200718 yr I love Rupp Arena, but the Cats have to go on a 15-2 run to even get anything out of the crowd. I disagree. I've been to games where the fans started getting fairly loud when UK was down and had not even came close to a 15-2 run.
November 28, 200718 yr I would love to see that kind of fans at Rupp on the Lower Level. Too many "Stuffed Suits" that are there for a social statement. Same problem at Freedom Hall. Got to love the Dukies for their pep!!!

November 28, 200718 yr I also think the perception is that the entire Cameron Indoor Stadium is 10,000 students doing their trance jump. They have plenty of the "boring" usual suspects that Kentucky does. My in-law uncle and aunt have a couple of season tickets and I assure you they are not chanting and could easily be confused with the UK regulars. But to answer the thread, it is cool what they have.

But thats the thing our boring usual suspect are by the court. Having alot of students at the top of the arena really does not do much to intimidate anyone. If you put the students in front of these "boring" usual suspects as you call them, it would be more of a college atmosphere and probably bring more of a home court advantage back to Rupp...
November 28, 200718 yr Author I disagree. I've been to games where the fans started getting fairly loud when UK was down and had not even came close to a 15-2 run. I'm not talking about fairly loud. I'm talking about ripping the roof off the stadium the entire game - even in a 20 point blowout (like last night).

Obviously, its all about money, but UK at Rupp Arena isn't even on the same level as Duke at Cameron Indoor.
November 28, 200718 yr I was at the game last night (2nd UK game ever) and I must say it was pretty boring. The only time people got out of their seat was to go to the bathroom or to try to catch one of the $1.00 T-shirts. If the UK fans showed about 1/5 of the intensity of the Stony Brook head coach the roof would have been off of Rupp. That guy was more entertaining than the game!

And I am sure that will be taken into consideration at the new Rupp, or whatever it will be called. I am not as familiar with the situation as many, but I am assuming a big concession was made in creating the current student section behind the basket, on the lower level. Just curioius because I have never been to Cameron, but on the lower-level side not shown on the television, that is not student seating is it?
November 28, 200718 yr Just curioius because I have never been to Cameron, but on the lower-level side not shown on the television, that is not student seating is it? As far as I know, students only get one side.

NO, it is mostly families of the Duke team, the visiting section, and the rest are for big boosters, the whole second level is for season tix, and at 9K people, that is not hard to fill.
