That is what the Breathitt defense did against Russell on friday. Sell out to stop the run. Every one in the box. They did a decent job but Russell was able to move the ball on them without abandoning the game plan. Belfry should be able to as well.

 

 

As for Breathitts recievers. #4 is etiher very good or just had the game of his life. Had three or for great catches that were deciding factors in the game. The one catch I even stood applauded. He had the best hands I've seen in two years. That includes Madon and Welch. Haven't seen Cole.

 

Russell defended them much in the way you just described. Rush 3 or 4 and drop the others into zones. For the most part they shut down the Breathitt rushing attack and the passing for three and half quarters. Where Belfry should do better is getting pressure with the D line. They are quicker than Russell's and should be able to make Fugate move around a little more. I don't see Breathitt scoring more than 2, maybe 3 TDs against the pirates.

 

I'll stick with my earlier prediction: Belfry 21 Breathitt 13

I think it's a fairly good defensive strategy for the competition we usually face...

 

Most of the teams we play, especially in the playoffs, are running teams, so stopping the run is a must. Also, the defense is designed to get pressure on the QB if a team does pass, forcing him to make quick decisions...there aren't a lot of high school QB's who are good in that situation. Like I said, if a team can protect the QB, Breathitt can be exploited with a good passing attack. The defense thrives on attacking and creating pressure...but the players have to tackle well. As someone else said, if you can break through the first line of defense, you have a good chance of breaking a big gain.

 

How that defense plays on Friday will determine whether Breathitt has a chance...I don't expect a lot of points against Belfry's defense, so we have to hold them to a low score.

Found this post by EKUalum05 in the Belfry vs Corbin thread from earlier in the year. Granted some if it is specifically for Corbin fans, but I thought it had lots of good info for the visiting Bobcat fans this week.

 

 

Well considering the large Corbin contingent on the site, I feel it is only appropriate to extend a welcome to Belfry and our beautiful CAM Stadium!

 

Directions: Pretty simple, depending on whether you choose to come via US 119 North from Pineville, or Hal Rogers Parkway, it will be easy to get to the intersection of US 119 North and US 23 at Pikeville. Once you proceed towards Belfry on 119, please be warned to watch your speed... there is alot of road construction along the way and the State Police patrol the 23 mile stretch pretty heavy. Especially use caution in the stretch that is 2 lanes where the road construction is on going. The lines on the road can be confusing and traffic frequently is entering and leaving the road. You will ultimately pass the old Belfry High School on your left, after that it is approximately 2.5 miles to the new school. You literally cannot miss it, the school will be on your direct right and parking is ample.

 

Tailgating: Belfry fans tailgate every game, even scrimmages HAHA, feel free to brign a grill and socialize. You will find that us Pirate faithful take pride in being good hosts and love chatting football with fans of other schools. Just clean up your mess please.

 

Dinner: For those lookign for a bite to eat before or after the game, you do have a few options all within a couple miles. Off the top of my head: McDonalds, Arby'

s, Captain D's, Giovanni's Pizza, Hardees, (2 X Subway), Block and Barrell Subs, Long John Silver's, Wendy's, KFC, Taco Bell. Inside of downtown Williamson, WV (3 miles) you can find Starter's Sports Bar, as well as a few other local eateries.

 

Lodging: For those wishign not to make the trek back, you have a couple options very close. Super 8 Motel and the Sycamore Inn are both within 3 miles of the stadium. Pikeville has a large number of rooms.

 

Gas: Just a reccomendation, but gas is about 10 cents more expensive in belfry than Pikeville... fill up at pikeville at the Food City in the same plaza as Wal-Mart at the 119/23 Intersection.

 

Facility: CAM is without a doubt one of the nicest High School facilities in the state of Kentucky. The FieldTurf surface, coupled with a 3500 seat stadium with ample visitor seating, makes this place very visitor friendly. There is one main concession stand that also has very well kept restrooms in it. There will eb a mobile concession stand on the visitor side as well. There are seperate locker rooms for both the hoom and visiting team, Game Clocks in both endzones, and a very visible scoreboard. CAM Stadium IS Handicap Accessible with seats designed specifically for those in wheelchairs.

 

A couple things you need to know about CAM. SMOKING IS PROHIBITED, in the event of rain UMBRELLAS ARE PROHIBITED AS WELL. There is a slight chance of rain forecasted, if you need ponchos there is a shopping mall and a Wal-Mart within sight of the stadium. We also Ask you to please keep our facility clean and throw away the trash you accumulate during the game. BHS athletic teams and student organizations raise funds by volunteeering to the clean the stadium and this will really help these young kids out.

 

RADIO: WXCC, 96.5 FM, is the official home of Pirate Football and they do quite a good job. You will find Booby Norman does an excellent job of play by play, and the color man is Joe Kinzer. Kinzer has obvious bias, as with any color man, but he brings excitement and tries his best to use restraint unlike alot of high school color men. Considering this is the only game in the area, you can also pick this game up on 93.1 FM out of Pikeville. For those unable to attend, you cana ccess a live stream from WXCC online.

I will agree with the other Pirate fans who suggested eating in Pikeville if you want a good sit down dinner. Since you apparently will be coming via Hazard and Route 80, that means you will be passing by Bob Evans (as you come into the outskirts of Pikeville, aka Coal Run), Reno's Roadhouse (right next to Bob evans), Applebee's (Intersection of 119/23, same plaza as Wal-Mart). If you want to venture into downtown Pikeville you will find Jerry's, Huddle House, and if you look especially hard a place called Chirico's that has some pretty good Italian Food.

 

 

I also forgot to include that at Belfry there is also a Quizno's, Dairy Queen, and Pizza Hut.

 

I had forgot about The Thoroughbred Steakhouse it is located on the hill next to the Mall, within sight of CAM Stadium. It also would be a solid option for a sitdown meal, they have a Hot Bar that has some pretty good food... it would be really quick to get the Hot Bar and the restaraunt itself is farely affordable. I personally don't care too awfully much for their steaks... but you will get full and it won't put you out of the way.

 

Once again, please have a safe trip down, be careful in the construction areas and trust me when I say WATCH YOUR SPEED IN PIKE COUNTY... haha

I would like to add a couple things for the Bobcat faitful reading on here:

 

For those making your first trip to Belfry in years the roads are considerably better, there are no longer winding mountains you have to cross.

 

Belfry's visitor seating is Aluminum bleachers, this means I strongly advise that if you don't have stadium seats, bring a blanket (or my preference a sleeping bag) to sit on, they will get cold. As mentioned, Wal-Mart is very clsoe to the stadium and you can pick up any last minute things you need such as propane heaters, blankets, hot hands, etc.

 

From all accounts it is going to be a very festive environment Friday. People will be out and about starting at 5 pm, should be plenty of tailgating (Belfry fans are very hospitable and will gladly welcome you and make you feel at home), should be some radio stations doing live remotes with music playing, and if you feel the ened, you are more than welcome to have your own tailgates. The only thing I urge of you is to respect the hospitality as I am sure you will, pick up your trash, watch the language with kids running around, and above all else don't take up extra parking spaces.

 

Speaking of parking, this is the biggest and only show in EKY with Hazard playing in Lexington. I would not be surprised if this is not a record crowd for CAM Stadium, with alot of those attending being neutral observers. Thus, a good general rule of thumb when it comes to parking at Belfry is this, if you see large ammounts of cars parked along US 119 it is probably a wise decision to not even risk going into the school parking lots, especially if time is approaching kickoff. The school lots can quickly become a labyrinth and I wouldn't want you all risking being late for kickoff, just to park in the same place you would have been aprking at 30 minutes prior. The worst case scenario in terms of parking off campus would be having to walk from near Food City which is not incredibly far away (Three to Four Hundred yards away).

Not going to happen, their lines executes too well and their backs are strong and fast as well as the QB to the outside. Belfry wins going down their throats. Sorry Breathitt I just don't see you matching up with them well.

I watched the Russell/Brethitt game last Friday, and I saw one half of Belfry/SC part II. I think that the line from Belfry will dominate the game on both sides being the overwhelming difference in the game. Also, Elkins throws a pretty good ball, so don't be surprised for a couple of home runs in the passing game against a loaded up box. 34-14 Pirates

With the defense you guys play like you said a broke tackle and your done for. How much does it worry you guys were Belfry has two really really strong and physical backs which can breatk tackles and really are big and strong?

That would be my fear with that kind of D on this offense with May and Lee, and they have a couple others in the backfield that are stronger than you would think.

I don't think anybody will stop the train Belfry it on this year. Its headed for Louisville. Belfry by 3 touchdowns.

Should Breathitt even bother showing up? I mean, with gas prices so high and all (and it's a long way to Belfry)...why not just save the money and finish the season undefeated with a regional title?

 

Seriously, though, I expect Belfry to win the game by 2 or 3 TD's, but there have been bigger upsets than this would be (if our '97 team could lose at Lawrence County), then we certainly have a chance Friday night.

No. Why would it? Here are the options the way I see it...

 

1) Play a more traditional defense, which might be more effective in preventing long runs, but would almost guarantee that Belfry would drive the ball down the field and chew up tons of clock

 

or

 

2) Play our defense, which might increase the risk of giving up a long TD run, but it also gives us the best chance to stop their ground game.

 

It's a no-brainer. We're playing to win, not keep it close. If Belfry is that good, and I believe they probably are, then hats off to them. But, I'd at least like to know they beat our best effort.
