Belfry rolls on Breathitt. Russell got no pressure on the QB, and I see Belfry eating him up. Also, I don't see the Belfry secondary giving up such a cushion on Breathitt receivers. We let them have the short to mid range pass all night trying to keep it in front of us, but in the end it allowed too much movement of the chains. Their kicking game is also very suspect. I don't think you can keep up with Belfry unless your team is firing on all cylinders.

I really dont think we have a chance if our defense can't bring down "MAY",and i say Coach John Chapman will and has been working on this all season,so we will have to wait and see what happens,Belfry is a great Football school,with great Coach so it has the billing for a Barn Burner,and yes i do believe we can score on anyone ,its our defense that will have to keep the from end-zone... And i would say if they are not up for this game they will be home watching the Championship game instead of playing for it. Go Bobcats....

I haven't read this whole thread but I saw the talk about coaching records. My question is, what is Coach Holcombs record at Breathitt? He has done a great job there!!!!

 

Secondly, I hate to see either of these teams lose but I know the winner will bring the big trophy back from Louisville!!!!

^ He got a plaque for his 200th win at the state finals a couple of years ago, maybe the year Russell won it last. I'd say he has around 225 career victories.

Coach Holcomb isn't listed on the All Time Coaches list, which lists everyone over 200 wins. Why is he left off?

1990-1999 = 93 wins and 34 losses

2000-2006 = 61 wins and 23 losses

2007 so far = 13 wins and 00 losses

I've just been looking through the thread and it appears that the Breathitt fans want to compare Belfry and Russell.Usually you might be able to do that,but this year Russell wasn't as loaded as in the past,still good though.Belfry on the other hand is extremely loaded.I truly believe these 2 teams are the best in 3A,but make no mistake that Breathitt is facing a far better opponent this week.If they play only as well as they did at Russell,then they are in for a long night.Belfry beating Johnson Central was no fluke,they are for real and I hope Breathitt understands that,if they do,then we have a ball game,Breathitt can play with almost anybody if they know what they're in for.But if they expect a team like they have already faced,it will get out of hand quick.Good luck to both teams,and I have no doubt that the winner brings home the title.

That is one of those stats in the KHSAA record books that have to be submitted by the school. Holcomb never was much for submitting stats unless he had a player doing extremely well or the team was really good. I know he isn't submitting stats about himself. His first year was either '82 or '83, and he had a few 7-8-9 win seasons in that decade. I distinctly remember him getting the 200 win plaque at the state finals a couple of years ago. It was either the last Belfry championship or the Russell win.

calm, I wasn't doubting you at all, I remember him getting a plaque too although I didn't remember what milestone it was for (150, 200, etc.).

 

Can you look back from 83 -89 and tell what his record is at Breathitt?

 

Did he coach anywhere else prior to Breathitt?

 

And I didn't think about coaching wins being a self reported stat. The KHSAA gets that from the team win/loss results now-a-days, but probably didn't back in the 80s.

He was Dudley Hilton's lead assistant at Breathitt Co. and that is the only place he has been the head coach. I could find out his record from the 80's if I went to Breathitt Co. because he has team photos with records of all his teams from the 80's in Coach Chapman's office, but like I said, I would have to go to Breathitt Co. I just searched on google and couldn't find anything about it. You are right about the wins being tabulated by the KHSAA now. I would assume that unless someone from Breathitt Co. reports his wins from the 80's that it won't be listed.
