I hope the boys from Breathitt pull it out...seems like they may be the underdogs...am I correct?

Let me rephrase. Maybe I could state it better. I said the offense is not special. I stand by that. I never said unimpressive or average or anything negative. Fact is, as I stated before, I do not think that Belfry's offense is any better than Breathitt County's or Russell's or Mason County's. I think they are very good but not heads and tails above the rest. That is what I meant by not special. An offense that can carry you and just overwhelm opponents. Belfry had that in Jones and Howard and Russell had that in Gross and Clark. None have that kind of firepower this year. Defense is what is special about this team. Defense is what is going to get them another state title.

I have not forgotten the semifinal game from 05. In that game Maynard was the man and May was a compliment. He did a fantastic job. Last year he ran into a buzzsaw of a defense that had his number. I think he is very good.

Buzzsaw was a very accurate way to put it, had the 2004 Russell team had last year's defense the Devils could very well had been the team who went on to pound O'Cath.

 

I don't expect Belfry to see a defense equivolant to that Devil defense from last year. That's good. HAHA

No, the only defense in 3A that is comparable to that one is Belfry's defense.

Charlie Dotson may be the most valuable 2 way player on this team. He makes so many plays just because he always does his job and he is right where he is supposed to be. He has a motor that won't quit and he is tough as nails. He is definitely the unsung hero (as the FB so often is), but his value is high. I would definitely buy me some Charlie Dotson.

 

Speaking of Charlie, how about him jumping down into the NG position last week when Belfry went to the nickel package? He had to have been having some fun there as he made 2 or 3 plays in the backfield from that spot. It was a good look.

 

In my honest opinion, if you put him anywhere on the field he's going to make plays.

 

And yes, I liked that look in passing situations. Very, very productive.

If what you mean is that Belfry's offense is one that doesn't "WOW" you, I agree completely.

 

I thought you might have meant that earlier, but I'm still not sure how 5wide meant it. He very well may have meant the same thing, but I'm 50/50 on it.

This one should be a dandy. I'm expecting Louisville Central to be facing the Pirates next week in a classic.

Everyone from Breathitt have a save trip in, and I can't wait for this one to get started, it should be a dandy!

I love how people hold on to "04, '05 and even '96 or '86.

 

These kids hardly know players from those teams and don't care. The certainly don't care about the Russell defense from last year.

 

Belfry will run their "not so impressive" offense up and down the field tonight. It doesn't have much flair but it has a lot of punch.

 

Without multiple mistakes, Belfry rolls on.

One thing is for sure. For one of these teams, it ends tonight.

Yeah you and everybody in Jackson would hope to make them pass. Elkins has the capability to burn you guys with the pass, not on a 3rd and long but maybe a suprise on second or first down, if Haywood would allow it.

The thing that Breathitt has going though is it is so hard to get a pass off with 10 people running at you. But if you can suprise them and get it off then watch out, and that is a big if.

I have so much respect for Breathitt and what they have accomplished, you guys be carefull on the trip down.

 

Like I said, if Belfry beats us with the pass, so be it. I'll tip my hat to them. I'm not even saying they can't do it...my only point is that going into this game, if someone told me Belfry was going to pass the ball more than normal, I'd be happy. That's all. When a running team starts passing, it's usually not because they want to.

 

I understand what you're saying though...Belfry could possibly slip a pass in every now and then that could result in some big plays. I can buy that...but I don't think Breathitt County can worry so much about that. They have to stop the ground game. If they don't, nothing else will really matter.

 

Looking forward to the game and seeing the new stadium...
