Some random thoughts from the game...

 

- Lincoln County has no concept of the cannon. When they scored, it would be almost 2 minutes before they would fire it.

Okay. I don't have any control over the PA guy. I would have been shocked had you been referring to anyone on our broadcast. I don't like cheerleader public address announcers. I find it bush-league.

 

he PA guy is the same guy that had his son play b-ball at Boyle County while he's always lived in Stanford and worked in Stanford.Go figure that one out

The PA man is horrible, I agree. I have been saying it all year. You don't broadcast from the PA booth. Sorry for the insults.

 

As for the game, surprised by the lack of speed from JC. They were very well coached. Loved the discipline they play with.

 

Not much of a game after half time, JC was too one dimensional.

As for the cannon...its also terrible. Against Garrard County, Lincoln County scored a safety. The teams had already talked to coaches and Garrard was running forward on their free-kick when the cannon sounded. I think the Garrard kicker wet himself! The referees actually called a delay-of-game penalty, which was the right call.

We took that class as a pass/fail many years ago and failed it.:banana:

 

Our cannon is the direct result of being shocked by Highlands' armament in 1979 and 1981 and trying to replicate it.

 

Be proud that your program had a lasting effect on an opponent 2 hours to the south.

Glad to see some of JC's players never give up. I thought Belhasen, Richardson, and Dennis Dillon played great defensive games. Hope to see more from Chase and Dennis next season! As for the offense, Ratliff and the others did the best they could without their two starting ends in Dials and Welch. It was a great run JC. You have nothing to be ashamed of.

Two problems with Johnson Central. If they could have solved them, it would have been a different game.

 

1. No passing game. The quarterback was fantastic handling the ball in the running game, but his passing was weak. It looked like Johnson Central had never thrown a pass. Swing passes and quick slants would have worked with their speed.

 

2. Kicking game. I realize Johnson Central probably didn't have a kicker but the "onside/everytime" kickoff was not effective. Lincoln isn't great on offense, but if you give them a short field, they will kill you. Johnson Central made their defense work much harder than they had to.

Johnson Central had been fairly effective thus far this year in the passing game with Dials and Welch in the lineup. With both Welch and Dials out with season ending injuries many knew that JC's passing game was going to be pretty much non-existent. That coupled with Lincoln Co. ablility to blitz heavy throwing off blocking schemes left no chance to develop a solid passing game. Lincoln Co. came out with a solid game plan and followed it through. And your right, JC's inability to kick the ball down field was going to caught up to them sooner or later in the playoffs. This problem should be addressed in the offseason.

It was a late night for me and I failed to post my thoughts from the game.

 

 

1. I was very impressed with Johnson Central toughness's, speed and size. They are well coached and play with a lot of intensity. They have a stable of backs that are not afraid to hit the hole wide open on the belly play.

 

2. Early on, Johnson Central's running game seemed unstoppable but Lincoln County made a key adjustment by moving Devon Denson (#15) from Linebacker to Defensive End and instructing him to blow-up the trapping guard. That made all the difference in JC's running game.

 

3. Lincoln knew they would be able to move the ball and score but they were concerned about handling JC defensively. We will never know for sure, but the loss of Welch and Dials by JC had to make a difference. I am not sure whether it was a 21 point differnece but clearly it made a difference.

 

4. Johnson Central has three losses (Belfry, Woodford County and Lincoln County) and two of three teams they lost to are in the semi-finals. That says a lot.

 

5. Lincoln County's offense gets better each week. It is becoming more versatile and potent with each game and, this week, kept the Patriots in the game until the defense could catch up with adjustments. Earlier in the season, it was the converse situation.

I know you have watched several games this season, wouldn't you agree that LC's offense has gotten better each week.

 

This is one of the more diverse and versatile offenses that LC has had, IMHO.

You are dead-on about the PA guy. He's awful. Too much talking. He turns into a play-by-play man over the loudspeaker and does it all the time. The higher-ups at Lincoln County really need to address this.

I also loved the projectile the cannon shot. It went about 15 yards out on the field everytime they shot it.

Anything can be said about the cannon, stadium, announcer, etc.. But Lincoln clearly shut down JC's offense after some adjustments, they deserve some credit. There is no need to knock Lincoln County on such petty things, they did win.

At the time of Larry French's hiring in 2004, Don Story was the Athletic Director at Lincoln County and he was very, very high on Larry French. Maybe I didn't get it at the time, but I do now. That was a major hire for Lincoln County.

 

I played for Snooky Wooldridge and Steve Sullivan; I was college roomates with Tim Estes and I am very fond of both Larry Phillips and Marty Jaggers but I don't think I can put any of them above Larry French on the list of best head coaches at Lincoln County.

I wasn't able to make it to Stanford the other nite, but from what it sounds like on your end, which is very creditable, that the game/win v.s Johnson Central was a lot like the '93 Jaggers led team that was playing Warren Central, @ WC and the game was all tied up at the half, 7-7. Then, LC came out the 2nd half, after adjustments made and it was GAME OVER.

 

What was the final of that game Network? 34-13? Can't remember....I was too busy with my ball boy obligations. :lol:

 

Here's food for thought, and I could be a little biased on the best coach to roam the LC sidelines, but instead of doing that...how about just imagining if Phillips, Jaggers and French were all on the same staff. You think any adjustments and game planning would be going on in those conversations at halftime??!! :eek: It'd probably just be safe to tell the opposing team, "Look, if you aren't up at least 2 TD's at half, just forfeit the rest of it!"
