Colts/Pats has become every bit as good as what you remember from the "Glory Days". Too bad much like the 49ers/Cowboys rivalry in the 90s we don't get to see it in the SB. Packers are a great story. Lions are a great story.

Compared to the NCAA this year, the NFL is a snoozefest.

I agree with the perception that the overall quality of play in the NFL has gone down. Has it? I don't know but that doesn't matter. If the perception is there, that's the challenge for the NFL.

 

Offensive output does seem to have decreased. QB play does seem to have gotten worse.

In reality no it wasn't....you had Dallas, San Francisco, Ny Giants, Buffalo, and Pittsburgh with occassional flashes in the pan...

 

How can we celebrate parity in college football, and not expect the same in the NFL? Where are those stars from college going? The NFL is on the way, up, up, up....Like I said, the biggest variance or trouble spot, is the lack of solid starting qb's in the NFL.

Not entirely. Just go to a bar that has it. I go to a place every sunday that has Sunday Ticket and 8 tv's.

Well, JD said they would probably be below .500... I believe they will be above... Not disputing his claim that it was bland, just that I believe he's wrong about them.

I agree there are a lot of bad teams in the NFL. From a nation-wide standpoint, however, most fans don't really notice what's going on beyond their own team. If they do see anything across the league, they see the Steelers losing at the Jets, Dallas struggling to beat Washington and Buffalo, Indy limping to a win at home over KC, and these things give the dregs hope that next week is their special moment that keeps fans coming back.

 

As far as the comparison to the NBA, that's laughable. The NBA's strong average of 2-3 guys per week getting into trouble for some level of thuggery keeps most casual fans away. Sure, the NFL has its troublemakers, but it's the same guys -- Tank Johnson, Pac Man, Vick, C. Henry, Odell -- over and over again. When you consider the ratio of NFL players to NBA players, we should be hearing about 15 guys a week getting busted for some sort of slip-ups.

 

And the fact that most of the teams are so bad helps keep scores close for the most part, which at least makes the bad football somewhat exciting. It's a cycle, and the Pats will be nowhere near this dominant next year, and a different cast will shuffle its way up to the top.

I think that the players are as good as or better than they have ever been. The problem with the NFL is the coaching. The play calling is so ULTRA conservative, that’s why it’s so bland and boring. It seems like every coach is scared to go out on a limb and take a chance. I haven’t looked this up but I would have to guess that this year will break a record for the most combined field goals in an NFL season.
