It is illegal for a person to sell drugs, should every drug dealer be shot.

It is illegal to drive while exceeding a certain limit, should every drunk driver be shot.

It is illegal to abuse a child, should every child abuser be shot.

The speeding scenario doesn't belong, apples to oranges.

I won't go as far as say shoot them, but they should be punished and or deported. Problem is, there are too many to consider rounding them up and deporting them.

 

As for the drug dealer and child abuser being shot, I'm good with that.

There is the problem. We will not round up millions of people and send them anywhere. If you continue to insist that a massive roundup is part of the solution you are making sure that nothing will happen.

 

The "round up" would be easier than people think. The illegals come here to better themselves. They do that by finding jobs and working. Alll the federal government has to do is levy very high fines on an employer for every illegal thats works for them. Make the risk far out way the reward. If the illegals can not find work here they will leave on their own.

 

Also give all law enforcement agencies the authority to enforce immigration laws. Once an illegal is caught they are immediately sent back over the border.

 

Follow the Mexican governments policy of handling illegals, they are very strict with their neighboring countries. But they want our policies to be liberal in their favor because of all the money the illegals send back to Mexico.

You can get mad at me if you like, I don't care. But it's people like you who look the other way when laws are being broken because the result of the broken law puts $ in your pocket that make me sick. As long as you benefit in the short term, you don't care who it hurts. Long term effects on our economy of illegal aliens will cripple our country.

The point is it isn't crippling anyone. It provide the essential low income work that our economy needs to progress and function.

Also, we live in a democracy. Obeying the law may be my responsibility, however there is no obligation to agreeing with the law for law's sake. I have not only the right but the civic obligation to try to change what I don't agree with.

Spoken like a true liberal. You don't have to agree w/ the law, you just have to obey it. If the law changes, then I would have to live w/ those changes. Until then, why should I have to put up w/ anyone who blatantly spits in the face of our laws?

It is hurting someone. It hurts every tax payer that has their money go to programs designed to help all of the illegals in this country. We have to provide free health care, free public schooling, free lunches at school because they meet the income requirements, and countless other programs. Don't tell me illegal aliens aren't hurting anyone. They are a blight on every facet of American life.

I've posted this before in another immigration thread, and I'm posting it again with slight modifications. I hope no one minds my self-plagiarism.

 

Research has shown a correlation between the economy and illegal immigration. Illegal immigration rises to its peak levels when industries within the United States are in need of low skilled workers and seems to subside, yet continues, when these same industries don’t require as many workers. While that makes sense, the scary part is the tremendous amount of lobbying that takes place to ensure that these large influxes of illegal immigrants are able to cross the border. Despite the higher number of immigrants coming illegally, border patrols and tactics are pared back, resulting in a disproportionately lower number of enforcements than at times when American industries do not require low skill workers.

 

With that said, closing the border entirely is not only unachievable but uneconomical. What is more, a mass deportation of all illegal immigrants out of this country is entirely unimaginable. To say otherwise is being fanciful. Of course we should secure our border with whatever means necessary (a wall, more agents, technology, etc.) but it can only succeed in conjunction with a streamlined immigration system, where we allow in these immigrants who wish to work. This will not only allow us to keep track of them, but make deportation effective as they will not be able to simply re-cross the border. This, of course, will require the cooperation of both the United States and Mexico, and it appears neither country is interested in doing so, as evidenced by the debacle that is our current border. Then we have the far Right in this country who, by so firmly implanting their feet in the ground in an effort to stymie any compromise that would bring about any real progress, have only served to exacerbate the severity of the problem even further by ensuring nothing changes. So for all of those people who refuse to accept anything but this ridiculous mass deportation scheme and label everything else “amnesty,” your insistence on doing nothing in the name of doing everything has played right into the hands of the very people who want nothing to change. Who do you think pays the bills for all those lobbying efforts I mentioned in the first paragraph?

I have to disagree..if you could see the money and food that our community constantly is supplying to the immigrants just so they can pay heat bills and feed their children...

 

THe list for Christmas Angels is 3x what it was 2 years ago in my community and the healthcare costs that this creates is phenomenal. Never mind that most of them do not have insurance so when you get into a car wreck good luck.! That is ok they will just raise your rate....

Show me a community with an influx of immigrants and receding economy.

I welcome immigrants who want to build a better life for their families with open arms, as long as they come here legally. I agree with you about people that are welfare sponges. I worked for a grocery chain in college, I saw the worst of that system, also. Folks trying to buy dog food w/ food stamps, giving their 5 kids a dollar food stamp each to buy a nickel piece of gum, then give mom the change so she could buy a generic pack of smokes. There have been changes in the welfare system, like limiting how long you can stay on it and using cards instead of paper stamps. Like all government programs, it still needs some tweaking, also, but we still have got to clean up our immigration situation. I realize a mass roundup is not practical, but as I stated before, you have to take baby steps. Catch an illegal, send them home. Give local law enforcement and judges the authority to deport those that don't belong here. It has taken years to get us in the situation we are in now, and it will take years to fix it, but we have to start somewhere.

That's why our southern border is being over run by illegal aliens. Too many Americans have been speechless for too long. And don't think I have a bias towards any certain group. One of my best friends is the grandson of Mexican immigrants that got their paperwork in order and came here the right way, learned English, didn't demand to have things available to them in Spanish, and proudly became US citizens. This proud family flies the American flag in front of their home, and I can honestly tell you, they feel the same way as I do about illegal immigration.

 

You misinterpret my post...I am speechless that someone could evidently be PROUD of supporting deporting babies born on American soil.

 

Of course, that is very closely tied with my speechlessness over the comment that illegals entering the country should be shot.
