NHS BIG DADDY Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/20071031-9999-1n31burn.html McAfee said grafts can be grown from patients' own skin to minimize tissue rejection at $500,000 per patient. Last year, the average cost of treating a burn patient at UCSD was $45,000 for an average 15-day stay. With some facing a long rehabilitation, hospital officials said they realize many U.S. taxpayers don't believe UCSD should provide such expensive hospital care to illegal immigrants. But, by law, that care must be provided “to anyone who comes regardless of their ability to pay.” What is your opinion on illegal immigrant's getting their health care paid for by U.S. Taxpayers? Especially in an extreme case such as this where costs are going to be in the millions.

PepRock01 Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 I'd hand the medical bill to their employer. I think that is an excellent idea. :thumb:
Sportz Addict Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 An embarressment to our country. We have our own people walking around without insurance and struggling to get treatment.
STRIKE3 Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Amazing and off subject slightly, but I caught part of Lou Dobbs and his quest, estimated that New York alone, had 1-1.5 million illegals....Mind-boggling.
Ms Liberty Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 It truely is mind boggling. Yes hand the bill to their employer.

What happens when Granny Jones comes in, gets treatment without insurance? Who helps pay for those bills? Does the hospital eat it? Call it a loss, what? In what way would this story be different than that one?
Hasbeen Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 It occurred to me a while back that I would bet the Cherokee wish they had opposed immigration more strongly.
Hatz Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 It occurred to me a while back that I would bet the Cherokee wish they had opposed immigration more strongly. No, just illegal immigration.

When an illegal gets the same treatment, its not right. Why should they get the same treatment when they don't pay any taxes what so ever?

Well that wouldn't be accurate unless they have never bought anything while in this country. Sales tax?
94 Camel Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Well that wouldn't be accurate unless they have never bought anything while in this country. Sales tax? True, but sales tax can hardly be compared to income tax and social security.
Hasbeen Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 I'm against illegal immigration. I support deportation, tightening security at our borders, and prosecuting those who would illegally hire them. I don't support free education, routine health care, or social services for those who are here illegally. However, I can't turn away a burn victim or any other medical emergency regardless of cost or legal status.

When an illegal gets the same treatment, its not right. Why should they get the same treatment when they don't pay any taxes what so ever? There are some illegal immigrants that do pay income taxes. There is a program that has been started that allows illegals that would like to pay taxes, as a way to start the process of citizenship. They hope by paying taxes, they are proving they want to be here and contribute in a legal way, even if they came illegally.
