Whatever you feel that illegal immigrants are unworthy of?

There you go again putting words in my mouth. The law is the law, period, for you, me and anyone else in this country. You're trying to pin me down, but to what I just don't know.

 

I certainly don't mean to pin you down. I am just trying to figure out if, in your opinion, the only lawbreakers that don't deserve healthcare are illegal immigrants. You keep saying that the law is the law, but the only ones that I see you pointing fingers at are the illegal immigrants.

However, I have broken laws in my life, too. Mine weren't to provide a better life for my family, so I am probably worse than many illegal immigrants.

The blame is solely on our sorry politicians who refuse to enforce our laws and perform their constitutional duties to protect this country. The federal government's unwillingness to enforce existing laws has left many employers with no choice but to hire illegals to stay in business. If all of your competitors hire illegal aliens and the government responds with a wink, a nod, and a driver's license, you either hire cheap labor too or you close your doors.

 

I've read through the entire thread and you pretty much hit the nail on the head. It's easy to say "Hold the employers accountable." However, if the laws were enforced in the first place (i.e. securing points of entry), the competition for the cheapest labor wouldn't be so fierce perhaps. A company can't pay union scale or federal prevailing wages while competing with companies that pay below market wages to illegal aliens. As far as treating the illegals is concerned; heck, our politicians have created the environment that allows situations such as this to occur, so we as taxpayers might as well pick up this tab too.

Right, I agree these people are law breakers. My argument is that, law breakers or not, they are entitled to the best health care that can be provided. As is everyone else who is currently living on this earth.

Let's say that I snuck into France and got an underground job with a company there paying less than the going wages. I get hurt while there, go to the hospital and when they ask who is going to pay the bill, I say "France"!

There are some coutries (Canada and Greece I know this is true) that will provide care for foreign indigents no questions asked. I'm pretty sure the European policy is as follows:

 

1) Health care (especially emergency care) is an international treaty recognized human right.

 

2) EU member states are all signatories to this, and as such have a system to provide care between all common nationals.

 

3) Other tourists (like US citizens) are expected to foot their own bill, and will be harrassed to do so (eventually) but health care is given first and questions are asked later. Since the US isn't signed on, that makes sense.

 

4) If the foreign national turns out to be indigent, care will be rendered.

 

So it's just about identical to our system, in the sense that those who can pay are expected to do so, and those who can't will still receive a basic level of care.
