Why? If you are trying to understand our point, then our Christian beliefs are a major influence in our thinking.

I guess the real question that applies to me, and apparently some others on this thread is What Would Jesus Do?

 

Do you remember in several new testament stories when the Religious leaders of the day kept trying to "catch" Jesus in a sin? One was breaking off grain (work) to eat on the Sabbath. He said you should break off the grain.

 

If I need to rob a bank b/c my children will not eat otherwise, by gollee I will rob a bank, RTS if you then decide to deny my health care b/c of it, so be it.

 

 

We need to move away from discussions of what is MINE and what is YOURS, and closer to the discussion of what is God's - all creation, all humankind - and how we treat what is God's.

 

As always, I refer to Matthew 25: 36ff Jesus said that if you visit someone in jail, you have visited ME. Go read it. Jesus had sympathy and love for LAWBREAKERS.

I'm Catholic, I have Christian beliefs also, but bringing up Jesus to make a point about who should pay for illegal aliens isn't going to sway anyone. Stick more to the topic, not the religion is what I'm saying.

However, if you want, I will put it this way. As a good human being, I certainly feel concern for the plight of others in my species. With this in mind, we live in a very prosperous country, and we can afford to help those with various afflictions. Since we CAN help, we SHOULD help - regardless of their socio-economic status. It is just good practice to take care of one another.

With the growing numbers of illegal aliens, NO we CAN'T afford it. We have elderly people on fixed incomes that can't get the proper health care for crying out loud.

The healthcare system is broken, period. Not because of illegals but because everyone is afraid of the big boogey man - socialization - woooo:eek: Universal health care is certainly doable, and affordable - but we are still too worried about someone taking some of my money to make someone else healthy. No, universal health care is a bad idea. It would make things MUCH worse. It's not free either and it doesn't cover 100%.

 

Tell my mother how great her health care is, and most of her friends. They'll have a few choice words for you.
