This thread is about the Top 10 players in the 16th Region. That has nothing to do with the teams they’re on or spaceships to Mars… :lol:

 

No one with any sense can argue that Elliott enters the season at the TEAM to beat until somebody steps up and proves otherwise. But as far as individual players go, if we look at facts, not emotions Dakotah Euton and Chad Jackson have to be considered the top two players in the 16th region.

 

Euton is a legitimate 6’ 8” 225 pounds. He was recruited by Florida, Duke, Indiana, UCLA, Uconn, Louisville, Texas and Kentucky as a freshman. He has committed to Kentucky as a sophomore. That’s a big as it gets in this state.

 

Jackson is over 6’ 4” and around 190 pounds. He is currently being recruited by Kentucky, Louisville, Kansas, North Carolina, Indiana, WVU, and many others. He will play major division one ball somewhere with a regular season television broadcast schedule. Contrary to popular belief, he does have an accurate outside jumper that will give opponents fits.

 

Both can throw down with both hands, and play above the rim. Whether Euton or Jackson is the better recruit depends upon what a coach is looking for… big and strong with a silky stroke from 30 feet in, or lightning quick with unbelievable hands and athleticism.

 

Ethan Faulkner, Jonathan Ferguson, Evan Faulkner and Matt Thomas are very good players and even better young men. All have a very good chance of playing basketball at the college level, but whether that will be Major, Mid or Small DI, DII, DIII or NAIA remains to be seen. Beyond these six, there are several promising young players with DI potential, but you’re just throwing darts to say who will finish where.

You are throwing darts to say where all of the above mentioned will be. There is nothing set in stone about any of these kid's. You don't have a scholarship until you ink the dotted line. I dont know much about Thomas because I dont have any contact but I do know about the other five, and they are all being recruited by D1 schools of some level!! Evan Faulkner is being recruited by Gardner-Webb whom upset UK last night not saying hes for sure got a scholly but they are interested and who knows! I hope and pray they give him one and that all the above gets one somewhere. I used Evan because he is almost always left out in the rankings but is right there with the rest of these guys IMO. Jonathan is recieving letters from 44 D1s right now and phone calls with emails from about 11. Hope and pray he gets one two. Ethan is also recieving lots of attention I dont know all of them but i know he is. Everybody knows about Euton and Jacksons recruitment because its publicized. Thomas aau coach said hes getting d1 attention so there you have it. As for whom is the best player I guess that would depend on the type of player you like or were needing or looking for. They are all good and all have something special they can do. Jonathan is #1 IMO. I'm sure Ethan and Evan is #1 in Mr/Mrs Faulkners OP

 

I am satisfied Dakotah is #1 in Mr/Mrs Euton's OP. Certain Chad is #1 in Mr/MrsJacksons OP. I'm sure Matt is #1 in Mr/Mrs Thomas OP. The several promising young players are quite possibly #1 in their parents opinion. Beyond those OPINION'S it really doesn't matter what anyone thinks other than the recruiter's! I don't know whether they are the Top players but I know the Elliott Co boys have accomplished more than anybody else AT THIS POINT IN TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know, as I read through this thread, I’m reminded why 16th Region threads get shut down more than any other region on BGP… we’re passionate, and we don’t mind expressing it. I love it… I can’t wait to actually play some games instead of just yapping around on BGP… :thumb:

 

There’s no way we’re going to get everyone to agree on one kid as the clear cut number one… or two… or three… but it is evident that there are a handful or so who have separated themselves from their peers. The result is this region is blessed with a higher level of overall talent than we have enjoyed in some time. We have at least six legitimate future college players suiting up this season, with that many or more in supporting roles.

 

Wow! Maybe the 16th will actually get to a Saturday in Rupp in the next two or three years.

 

As far as a top ten, IMO it all boils down to who is most valuable to their high school team, and how far that team is able to go this season.

 

It would be difficult to imagine Elliott being successful without Ferg and the Twins. Rick Mays is a fine coach, and has certainly paid his dues, but there’s no way Elliott would have made it to Rupp without the Big Three... in fact, it’s hard to imagine how Elliott gets out of the region without any one of them.

 

Euton and Jackson are the core of the Rose Hill program. They’re like bacon and eggs… peanut butter and jelly… chips and salsa… mashed potatoes and gravy… (dang… I’m getting hungry… :lol: ) Sure they’re terrific individually, but they’re really good together. They are bigger, stronger and quicker this year. They have a bigger and stronger supporting cast this season. The kids are still growing. Granted, RH has yet to get to Rupp with this bunch, but they wouldn’t have a prayer without Chad and Dakotah.

 

Thomas is the sun around which Ashland’s other players orbit. The same can be said for Selby at Boyd… except, if Thomas is the sun at Ashland, Selby is the Red Giant at BC… :lol: The key for them will be the support they get from their teammates.

 

I realize there are many other good players not named here, and perhaps they will prove they deserve to be listed with this group, but I would venture to state that any coach in the region could take these seven alone and be playing in Rupp Saturday night. :thumb:

I would agree with Fastbreak that there is a lot of passion in the 16th Region. Those associated with a particular school passionately support their favorites. No doubt about it. However, I believe an equally present ingredient in the mix is that many passionately dislike some of their neighboring schools. To put it another way, there is not a high level of love in the 16th Region. There is, in many cases, even less trust and respect.

 

So, why do so many 16th Region threads get closed down? Undoubtedly, it is passion of one kind or another. And, this passion is not limited to BGP by any stretch of the imagination.

I am sure that there are a lot of players that should be on the list . I know of one for sure., but he is not, so he is on my list.

Well, you all certainly have a good debate going on , so I thought I would let you all in on a little secret. Article 6, section 2aaa/bb in the KHSAA bylaws apparently allows a player to come back and complete his eligibility

after a tragic accident. There was a player named Josh Clements that was able to use this little known bylaw last year after a car wreck. I have appealed to the KHSAA to let Jon VanHoose come back and play the Month of March ONLY

under the medical "redshirt" bylaw. While I havn't heard back from them yet, I feel good about his chances, and am looking forward to having a fun March with you all, and hopefully getting a rematch with that pesky bunch of kids from Elliot County. Since March is really the only part of the Season, that matters, I'm going to go ahead and still nominate Jon for your list, and hope he is allowed to compete with Matt Thomas on the "ALL UNIVERSE TEAM"
